Unable to open or view newly created virtual machine, Status = "Unable to open" [Workstation Pro 15.5.6 on Windows 10 1909]

$

If I create a new virtual machine it doesn't show up automatically in either the "Library" or "My Computer". I have to "Scan for Virtual Machines" to make it visible. Even after adding the virtual machine I see that the "Status" for the virtual machine is "Unable to open".

This is really strange. Anyone have an idea why this is happening or how to fix this?

vSphere 7.0- Unable to perform PCI pass through with Nested Virtualization Enabled

$

0

I have 2 HCL listed - VMWare servers that I recently upgraded to ESXi 7.0 from 6.5.

I'm attempting to get DDPIO working with some dedicated legacy SSL Accelerator cards (I know, I know, it's legacy support)

With ESXi 6.5, I was able to get around this problem by using the following syntax inside of the .vmx files and importing them.

vhv.enable = TRUE

hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = FALSE

However 7.0 doesn't seem to be respecting these flags and I continue to get the following:

PCI passthrough devices cannot be added when Nested Hardware-Assisted Virtualization is enabled.

I'm not seeing anything in the release notes that would indicate that these customization would stop working..

I'm not expecting them to support the Guest or any of the passthrough configuration/functionality, but c'mon, I can't even power on the VM.

Before I jump in and open a ticket, does anyone have any direction on doing this on ESXi 7.0?

Thanks,

Garrett

Added the

vhv.allowPassthru = TRUE

flag, and that didn't help either.

New Organization, Different LDAP server, vIDM authentication, cannot enroll devices. Error message enclosed

$

Hey everyone! I've got a ticket open for this, but wanted to see if anyone had seen this issue...

I've recently created a new organization group under the master org for a daughter company. I've established communication with its LDAP servers to sync users, both in Workspace One and vIDM (vmwareidentity) since enrollment authentication goes through there. Sync with LDAP is also working fine in vmwareidentity.

Now, when I go in the intelligent hub and try to enroll a test user in that organization, it does find the organization with the email I enter, so far so good. Then it asks me which directory to use for auth. Afterwards I use the username/password for that user and I can see in the vIDM audit logs that it does the ActivationToken Create part. Again, so far so good.

Right after that though, both on iOS or Android, enrollment fails. On Android, I get ' Enrollment message rejected from server' . On iOS, I get ' We're having trouble loading this page. Please contact your admin to work through this error.'  and at the bottom, ' Request failed' .

So it does look like authentication succeeds, and that it tries to lead the next step in the enrollment process but fails to do so. Restriction, misconfig? I am out of ideas right now.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

To get out of this situation do the following:

      • Restart and turn off Secure Boot in the UEFI firmware and boot the host with Secure Boot turned off.
      • When booted, log into the host and remove the offending VIB and shutdown. ( which is on PSOD screen)
      • Re-enable Secure Boot and restart the host and the system should boot normally.

5.1 sound in vmware windows client results in wrong speaker being used

Machine is a Ryzen 7 2nd Gen with 16GB RAM, 8 cores x 2 threads (16 cores detected)

500GB SSD, NVidia GeForce 750ti 2GB

Installation of vmware workstation 15.5.6 build-16341506 is on debian 10

inside the vm is windows 10 licensed

the sound has been tried in the vmx file as hdaudio, sb16 and configured to uise either alsa or /dev/dsp

the linux station is working with oss, alsa, pulse and jackd (not all at the same time evidently ...)

the linux station is working 5.1 with no issue, plays dvd, bluray and all manners of 5.1 encoding in kodi, xine, vlc ...

what does not work correctly however I try is 5.1 in guest windows 10, the best I can do is 5.1 resulting in sounds from windows being played on the wrong speakers (front right on surround left, center in rear right rear right on front left etc ...)

I have so far been unsuccessful in correcting that behaviour

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Hi gurus

I had a hung task Migrate virtual machine, that got stuck on 13%, that was the only machine to get stuck all other VM migrated correctly, I ssh to the esxi and found the vmx process not to hard as it was the only VM, Kill the parent process, but vcenter after logoff and back on and refresh and kick , it still shows the vm stuck as 13% and cant do anything to it

am I missing something after the kill so vcenter get the info and let me do new stuff on the VM

Thanks all

Hi ALl,

Having some really frustrating issues with VMconveter 6.2, when trying to V2V a 2008 server of about 5TB from an old scale environment to ESXi 6.7. The initial attempt failed at 96% with the error "unable to create VSS snapshot of the source volume(s) error code 259.

All subsequent tried have finished around the 30 % mark with the error "An error occurred during the conversion: 'BlockLevelVolumeCloneMgr::CloneVolume: detected a write error during the cloning of volume \windowsbitmapdrivervolumeID

Some of the logs are below happy to provide more, the destination is a VVOL datastore and the link is acceptable

Graphics corruption in Ubuntu guest since upgrading Workstation to 15.5.6

I upgraded from 15.5.1-15018445 to 15.5.6-16341506 on Windows 7 and since then I'm seeing weird graphics corruption in my Ubuntu 16 guest VM. I have a snapshot that I resume and if I leave it on in the background eventually I will switch back to it and graphics nonsense will show. The bad graphics data seem to be from the guest. In the screenshot below you can see distorted text but I've also seen icons. If I switch windows in the guest and then go back to the problem window then the graphics will go back to normal. The snapshot is from July 26.

Moving vm's from ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 6

$

We have four esx v4.0 hosts and a vcenter server on 2003.  Been running 7 years so it's time to retire.

The vm's are already on a new Equalogic iSCSI array.

I know I can't vmotion between the different hardware platforms, and vcenter server 6.0 won't manage ESXi 4.0 anyway.

If I bring up four new 6.0 hosts and a new vcenter server, I'm thinking I can shut down a vm, remove it from the 4.0 inventory, and add it to the 6.0 cluster.  Then boot it up.

Would this work?

Mouse wheel scrolling skips clicks

$

In my VMware guests, mouse wheel scrolling does not work correctly.

How it should work: 1 "click" of the mouse scroll wheel should produce 1 line of scrolling.

How it works: It takes fully 8 "clicks" of the mouse scroll wheel to produce 1 "click" worth of scrolling.

The result is that scrolling is extremely slow. I can sit there turning and turning the scroll wheel and getting nowhere. It's really quite frustrating.

This problem affects only the virtual machine guests. The mouse wheel works correctly in the Mac host (namely every "click" of the mouse wheel registers).

What I have already tried:

1. On the Windows 10 guest, I tried Settings -> Devices -> Mouse, every possible combination of settings. Setting it to scroll multiple lines at a time does NOT help. It makes scrolling jumpy and still takes fully 8 "clicks" of the scroll wheel to register 1 "click" worth of scrolling. NOT HELPFUL.

2. Virtual Machine Settings -> Keyboard and Mouse. I do not see any helpful settings there. All the settings pertain to shortcut keys, not to mouse wheel.

What else should I try?

Mehrere VMs 2 Netzwerke - Workstation 15

Hallo,

ich bin irgendwie zu blöd dafür...ok, ich bin kein Netzwerk-Profi, schaffe es aber, meine VMs zu konfigurieren, sodass sie fast alles machen, was ich will...

Folgende Situation:

Are these scripts just doing a health check? Or is it a command that also internally restarts the VSAN?
