Vsphere 6.5 expand datastore1 capacity

Hello VMware Gurus,

this is my first post @VM community, I have very very limited knowledge about Vsphere stuff,

I'm running a Lab for some of my Aruba networks VMs under vsphere 6.5, and I need to give more space to datastore1. Through GUI, I tried to add more capacity but I got an error message that said: "Failed to create VMFS datastore datastore2 - Cannot change the host configuration."

Doing some research I found some solution but all not working for me,

could someone help me with resolving this message, please let me know if you need any information

Issues moving cluster to new datacenter?

We need to move 6 esxi 6.7u1 hosts to a new geographic location for DR purposes.

 

Currently in vcenter, we have a single datacenter with 2 clusters; each cluster has 6 physical hosts.

 

I'm thinking I need to create a new datacenter and cluster in vsphere for the DR site, with all new dvSwitches, port groups, and vmkernal ports, with IPs that work at the DR site. Correct?

 

Then, what's the best way to move the hosts to the new datacenter and cluster in vsphere?

I'm thinking I need to disconnect the hosts from the current cluster, change the IPs on the physical esxi hosts, then and add those to the new cluster. Correct?

 

(Next, I've been told I need to spin up a new instance of VCSA on the DR cluster, but I'll ask questions about that in the other thread I have going for that.)

 

UPDATE: I failed to mention that we are running VSAN on these hosts; each set of 6 hosts create a single VSAN datastore; so we'll be moving the DR datastore to the new DR cluster as well. Any hints about that would be great as well!

How do I create an alert on a specific date without using a metric?

I want to setup an alert when a certificate needs to be renewed in my service.  I would like to simply create a warning type alert on the certificate expiration date minus 30 days or so.  I've looked at the query language and what I've come up with is pretty ugly, so I'm trying to see if there is something better.

 

For example, if a certificate expires on June 17, 2019, I could do something like the following:

 

(year("America/Los_Angeles")=2019 and month("America/Los_Angeles")>=5 and day("America/Los_Angeles")>=18) or (year("America/Los_Angeles")=2019 and month("America/Los_Angeles")>=6)

 

I'm hoping there is something better that I could use.

Binding ip-address into a newly-generated virtualNic

I'm writing perl application about  creating virtualNic  in  vCenter.  Until now, the virtualNic is generated successfully  and  the mac-address can  be  retrieved,  but  I  have to wait fourty-second  for  the  ip-address  returned.  I  want to know is there any efficient way to  get  ip-address  immediately  after  generating the  virtualNic? Or,  if  there is another way to  allow me  bind  a  newly-generated  ip-address  into the  virtualNic?  thank  you  for  help.

Guest - (CPU Queue, Disk Queue, Disk Queue Latest) Metrics not appearing in vROps 7.0

ESX version and virtual machine VM Tools level meeting criteria for these new metrics in vROps 7.0 but not seeing these metrics.  Policy set to State = Inherited for each.  Anyone aware of fix required to pick up these metrics?

Fusion .vmdk file over 300GB

Hello,

 

I have tried to find an answer to this so please forgive me if it has already been covered.

 

I am running Vmware Fusion 11.1.0 on Mac OS 10.13.6 with Windows 10 as the guest OS.

 

My VM is called "Boot Camp". I have 5 files:

Boot Camp.vmdk  (255.96GB)

Boot Camp-000001.vmdk (10.36GB)

Boot Camp-000002.vmdk (305.94GB)

Boot Camp-000003.vmdk (4.08GB)

Boot Camp-000004.vmdk (1.18GB)

Boot Camp-000005.vmdk (4.55GB)

 

Settings shows my Hard Disk to be 4.2 GB and within Windows it says I have 299GB.

 

However the whole VM package is now 610.06GB.

 

Is there any way to reduce the size? It is filling up my Mac hard drive.

a problem with the port of vddk

Hello everyone,

 

     I am using vddk version 5.1

 

     When using the function "VixDiskLib_Connect", I have set the port in struct VixDiskLibConnectParams to 9020.

     Because I don't want to use the default port 902.

     The reason is simple, there are 3 esx in the LAN, and only 1 ip for public network. Outer net, through the NAT to access all the esx.

     So, it's impossible that all esx are use the port 902.

 

     Then, I use the function "VixDiskLib_Open", an error message is printed:

     [NFC ERROR] NfcNewAuthdConnectionEx: Failed to connect to peer. Error: Failed to
      connect to server 61.92.242.19:902

 

     I did comfirm that the NAT is work.

 

     Seems that, it's the bug of the vddk, we can not use another port.

VMware Player 6.0.7 仮想マシンが勝手に再起動する

Windows10 1809でVMware Player 6.0.7を使用しています。

 

仮想マシンのOSはWindows10 1511です。 仮想マシンではゲームを実行しているのですが、

 

６～１０時間ほど、起動しているとエラーや何の表示もなく仮想マシンが再起動されてしまいます。

 

色々調べてみましたが、情報が無く解決できない状況です。ゲストOSのWindows10のバージョンを上げたり

 

VMware Playerのバージョンを最新のものにしてみたり、VMware workstation pro 15、最新のVMware Tools

 

などでも試してみましたが、変わりませんでした。以前はゲストOSはWindows7を使用していましたが、

 

その時はそのようなことは一切ありませんでした。VMware Playerのバージョンが6.0.7の理由は、

 

最新と6.0.7ではCPU使用率の少なさが全然違うのと、ゲストOSの軽さが全然違うので

 

古いのを使っています。できれば、このまま古いものを使用したいです。

 

どなたか、解決法が分かる方は教えていただけないでしょうか。よろしくお願いします。

Do not start up in full screen mode

Hi,

 

I have made a script initiating a virtual machine when booting

vmrun -T ws start "C:\Virtual Machines\Image\test.vmx"

 

The script is placed in the start up menu.... but when the virtual machine is started is is not starting in full screen.

 

How to I ensure the virtual machine is always started in full screen?

Upgrade vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) from 6.5 (6.5.0.23200) to 6.7U2 failed with "Unable to enumerate and validate the root certificates from the TRUSTED_ROOTS VECS store."

I have VCSA 6.5 and try to upgrade it to 6.7U2

 

During migration prerequsites check phase I have error "Unable to enumerate and validate the root certificates from the TRUSTED_ROOTS VECS store. Make sure that the vmafd service is reachable and started before continuing."

 

I have check cert store on new VCSA installation by:

 

service-control --status certificatemanagement

 

The service is running

 

Then I check cert store by "vecs-cli store list" and get "Unable to connect to vmafd service"

 

Then I check syslog and found

 

Error opening Certificate /etc/vmware/vmware-vmafd/machine-ssl.crt

PS I cannot use certificate-manager as I cannot authenticate as administrator@vsphere.local at this point of time.

 

UPD: I have copied /etc/vmware/vmware-vmafd/* from old VCSA but without success. "vecs-cli store list" still cannot connect to vmafd service

'Error caused by file [File path].vmdk' When trying to clone, migrate, backup, copy

Hi all,

 

I wondered if anyone here could help me I am having real trouble trying to move a VM from one host to another. I've tried live migration, normal migration, cloning, Veeam backup & restore, downloading VMDK from the datastore, FTPing the VMDK from the datastore and each time these methods fail.

 

When cloning, migrating or downloading in the vSphere web client i get the error 'error caused by file [Then the file path of the vmdk for that virtual machine]. Veeam fails with a permissions issue, FTP fails with 'error while reading'. I cannot seem to get around this issue and the VM is just stuck where it is. (And yes the VM works fine, boots fine etc)

 

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

Displaying nested object properties in inventory description

Hi,

 

We are using the Model driven arche type for vRO plugin development.

In the inventory objects, we have other nested objects and lists as the inventory object's properties, which are not visible on the general tab, where the inventory object properties are displayed. All other primitive and enum type properties are seen, except list and nested  object types.

 

For eg, If we have an inventory object as Vehical, which has a property of type Car.

Car has it's own set of properties. We need to display the car's model in the on the general tab for the inventory object Vehical.

 

In the properties file, used in describeFinderProperties() method, where the labels of all the fields are configured, the nested object properties have been included. For eg. Vehical.car.model=Car model.

 

Is there some other configuration needed in order to get there type of properties displayed?

 

Any help is appreciated.

Win10 Hyper-V role from the system before running VMware Player.

I'm attempting to launch an OVA image but I keep getting prompted with the following error. I'm not sure what else to try.

  • I checked windows Optional features, and Hyper-V is not installed.
  • I checked the Bootloader and Hyper-V is set to off
  • I also checked Device Guard and Memory integrity is set to off.

  Any thoughts?

Hello,

 

The error mentioned in title is when trying to configure backup for NSX-V manager with SFTP server (x.x.x.x).

 

Network team confirmed that the traffic is allowed.

SFTP server team confirmed that the server is working properly, and the access is allowed using the same username, password and directory.

 

My point of view, we still have an issue at network level. so my request is how can we telnet from NSX manager to the SFTP server ? or what are the ways to troubleshoot similar issues ?

macOS Catalina VMs do not run in VMware Fusion 11.1.0

I'm trying to run the WWDC beta of macOS Catalina in VMware Fusion and there is a CPU panic when the VM boots and the guest OS can't ID the right hardware.

 

How can I fix this problem? Please see below for a screenshot of the error (highlighted in yellow):

VSCA running but can't connect to vCenter

Hi,

 

I started my host today and the VCSA booted up as what appeared to be normal and it's sitting on the standard how to login and support bundle dcui page.

 

But i'm getting a page cannot be displayed when I attempt to to browse to it by its IP address and I can't get to to the admin section either.

 

To make matters worse I don't have a backup so I can't do a restore.

 

The networking appears to be ok and it is responding to pings.

 

Any ideas?
