We have vmware horizon 7.3.2 and windows 10 64 bit linked clones.. dedicated assignment
The problem is that the vdi would disconnect all of a sudden and afterwards
1.the vdi might have restarted
2.on connecting again the screen size is around 3/4 and the rest is of black screen..need to restart the vdi to get this fixed.
This issue does not happen with any sequenses.completely random and atleast on alternate days one or other user face this issue.
Also for the first case as mentioned above i have found mini dump file in the vdi...
Analyisng that shows ntoskrnl.exe for couple of users...
In the vdm logs under logs.txt could see some errors saying writing crash dump to wsnm*.dmp
How to read this dmp..any clue about the issue would be really helpful for me to have a peaceful night sleep!!!!
Hi all,
So we are using Wyse zero clients and trying to get smart card authentication to work with a Windows 10 image. We are able to reach the connection server and select a pool. However, when we are passed to the Windows image, we get stuck at the logon screen and it just prompts for credentials. This is on Horizon 7.1
Anyone know of any known issues with smart cards and this version of Horizon?
Thanks.
Hi,
Does anyone know what the correct process is to move a gold image to a new datastore, with the purpose of moving the pool to the new datastore as well? We are moving from a VMFS5 to a VMFS6 datastore.
Thanks!
Hello
I wanted to expand the Datastore because it's running out of free space and the raid1 where it resides had about 50 GB unasigned (I let those 50 GB unused when I initially created the VMFS)
Since I couldn't do it on the GUI (ncrease datastore capacity greyed out), I followed this instructions to do it on the CLI: https://michlstechblog.info/blog/esxi-expand-datastore-from-command-line/
I could expand the partition and all went well until the part of growing the VMFS.
Initial part:
[root@esx:~] partedUtil get /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000
30377 255 63 488017920
1 128 364644400 0 0
[root@esx:~] partedUtil getUsableSectors /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000
34 488017886
[root@esx:~] partedUtil resize /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000 1 128 488017886
[root@esxi:~] vmkfstools -V
If I do as described, using the partition indicator ":1", I get a "not found" message.
I if remove the ":1" from the second argument (destination?), I get a "Failed to get info from head device path"
[root@esx:/dev/disks] vmkfstools --growfs /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1 /vmfs/devices/disks/eui.b0269f4100d00000:1

I'm stucked here and don't know what to do
The partition size is 232 GB but the Datastore is only 173 GB,,,
Here some screenshots
Could you help me???
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I am using the following in a script to build a new vm. I am copying the original customization spec, then modifying it.
Get-OSCustomizationSpec -name $custom | New-OSCustomizationSpec -name $servernametemp -type NonPersistent -ErrorAction stop
Get-OSCustomizationNicMapping -OSCustomizationSpec $servernametemp | Set-OSCustomizationNicMapping -ipmode UseStaticIP -IpAddress $ipaddr -subnetmask $NETMASK -DefaultGateway $gateway -dns $dns1 -ErrorAction stop
Set-OSCustomizationSpec $servernametemp -Domain domainname -DomainUsername $username -DomainPassword $userPassword -ErrorAction stop
When I try to create a new vm using the new spec, I get the following message:
Thanks for any help!
Hello guys,
I have to set up 2 machine with Vmware 6 and at the same time providing high availability fot the VMs created over there, but in this my project we do not gonna use External storage, because it will use just to couple vms, and then I was searching of how to use local shared datastore, nonetheless I've read some thing regarding of VSan, but I can't understand it very well and if i would be able to set up this machine in order to share their datastore.
I've found some post, but it wasn't clear.
Can someone help me with that pls?
Hello Everyone,
I'm planning to migrate more than 2000 vms from vcenter 5.5 to 6.5 and I would to get some help here if it's possible to have a script
which.
Like first
Source :shutdown the vms, unregister and remove from inventory and not delete...
Destination : Register vm, add to inventory connect to network and schedule VM compatibility upgrade
Targeting the source/destination cluster or folder that contains vms, keep same vlan, determine the port group type (standard or distributed).
Destination part, before starting vms, connect network and if possible update
Many thanks
Patrick
I got an email telling me to look at this Skyline Advisor, so I tried it, and then I get a "There was an issue with validating your login credentials against our backend database." and the page sent me here for help.
Can someone get me in?
Thanks
Recently upgraded to: DELLEMC-ESXi-6.0U3-5224934-A03 and while trying to create a host configuration backup, I get the following result:
C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware vSphere CLI\bin>vicfg-cfgbackup.pl --server=10.2.1.201 --username=root -s c:\cfgbackup.tgz
Enter password:
Restore failed: A general system error occurred: Internal error
I have tried with the vCLI 6.0, vCLI 6.5. Why does it say "restore" failed????
Also, when I try to run the backup from the host, I get:
[root@esxi1:~] vim-cmd hostsvc/firmware/sync_config
[root@esxi1:~] vim-cmd hostsvc/firmware/backup_config
(vmodl.fault.SystemError) {
faultCause = (vmodl.MethodFault) null,

Any ideas? THX
Hello Experts,
I have the below script to add/modify some VMSettings in our cluster. We first powered off the VMs then ran the script which showed that it is setting the values for both new advanced settings the "followcorespersocket and the numa.autosize.vcpu.maxPerVirtualNode. After the script finished, we ran verification and it showed that the values for both VM settings is correct on all VMs. We started powering on the VMs but the VMs were not stable so we powered them down and then re-ran a verification script to find that the VMs only copied the first VM setting only but not the second one even though the verification right after the script fifnished showed both correctly!
We powered down the VMs again, ran the script again, seems like the script got the second VM setting the second time right. Powered on the VMs, they were stable, then ran the verification and everything seems correct. Does any body know why did the VMs did not copy both VM settings correctly on the first run? Do we need to introduce a pause in between the two commands for a few seconds to give the VM a chance to copy the new VM settings correctly? Your inputs is highly appreciated. Thanks

I've had two of my 10 Horizon pools working perfectly for a long time and now all of the sudden the Windows search feature no longer works. When you click the Windows Start button then just type what you want, that feature no longer works. I've tried new Images, new pools, new Master Images, and still no luck. The master image works fine before shutdown and the snapshot is taken. Once the image is pushed out to a pool the search feature no longer works. All services are running and working, I have UEM and App Vol on one pool and even uninstalled them to see if they were the issue with no luck. No GPO's are causing this since i put the users and computer in a seperate OU to test. I am running out of ideas so if anyone has any ideas i am all ears. Any help is appreciated. thanks

Hi folks,
We have a Windows 7 Full VM pool in use. The 60GB C: drive fills up usually because of piled up Windows Updates or winSxS folder and causes a connection error until resolved.
I run patch cleaner, windows updates, usually clears space, until it fills up again.
Question:
Anyone ever use a C: Drive disk quota to help manage this problem?
I just wondering if it will effect Windows Updates or something else.
How to Set Disk Quota Limits in Windows 7/8/10
Thanks
This happened to me a few months ago on a fresh install of the vcenter appliance 6.5. It just stopped working a week or two after applying an update. Services would not start and there was no indication as to why. It wasn't a space issue, it wasn't that other issue with a duplicate value in the vpostgres database I read about either. I finally gave up and wiped it out to redeploy from scratch.
Well low and behold, sometime last night vcenter stopped working again. This time it wasn't even a full week after having applied the 6.5.0c patch. Only two services start, none of the others will. My deployment is two appliances, a PSC and the vCenter. The PSC appears fine and the services are showing healthy. The vCenter turned to garbage again. Here's an output of service-control:
root@mp1vsivcs501 [ ~ ]# service-control --status Running: lwsmd vmafdd Stopped: applmgmt vmcam vmonapi vmware-cm vmware-content-library vmware-eam vmware-imagebuilder vmware-mbcs vmware-netdumper vmware-perfcharts vmware-rbd-watchdog vmware-rhttpproxy vmware-sca vmware-sps vmware-statsmonitor vmware-updatemgr vmware-vapi-endpoint vmware-vcha vmware-vmon vmware-vpostgres vmware-vpxd vmware-vpxd-svcs vmware-vsan-health vmware-vsm vsphere-client vsphere-ui
Trying to start any service produces a similar output:

The first thing that pops out for me is line 11, "Failed to execute operation: Unit file is masked". I get that on every service I attempt to start and I'm not finding anything in VMware's knowledge portal about it. This is extremely frustrating.
**Additional info**
Running a search on just unit file is masked took me to a generic ubuntu thread about systemctl showing masked unit files. Here's the output of the systemctl list-unit-files:
root@mp1vsivcs501 [ ~ ]# systemctl list-unit-files | grep vmware vmware-bigsister.service static vmware-cm.service masked vmware-content-library.service masked vmware-eam.service masked vmware-firewall.service enabled vmware-imagebuilder.service masked vmware-mbcs.service masked vmware-netdump.service masked vmware-perfcharts.service masked vmware-rbd-watchdog.service masked vmware-rhttpproxy.service masked vmware-sca.service masked vmware-sps.service masked vmware-statsmonitor.service masked vmware-updatemgr.service masked vmware-vapi.service masked vmware-vcha.service masked vmware-vmon.service masked vmware-vmonapi.service masked vmware-vpostgres.service masked vmware-vpxd-svcs.service masked vmware-vpxd.service masked vmware-vsan-health.service masked vmware-vsm.service masked vmware-bigsister.timer disabled
Not sure if that's normal or not, but it appears to be what the error message is complaining about?

Hi All,
Got a stand-alone esxi 6.5 host (no Vcenter) with a couple of live VM's on them. As of the last few weeks i haven't been able to access the Web UI at the example address of (https://192.168.1.2/ui/#/login ). The error message in IE is as shown in the following snippet:
I have followed a few guides including:
To disable TLS1.1 - ESXI TLS configuration - Super User
Anyone got any ideas? I feel like this is due to bowsers increasing their security and only allowing certain protocols, but using the guide mentioned, my settings are here:
Hi guys,
I have a project to move a bunch of thin provisioned (attached) hard disks part of 6 or 7 VMs (file servers) across to another VM or set of VMs with the idea to have less VMs.
Each hard disk is dedicated to a single client and has its own set of NTFS/Share permissions.
I'd like some options in terms of the best/easiest way to transfer disks to another VM whilst retaining perms. The server it will be transferred too will have a different name.
Options I've thought of:
1. Vice Versa data from one share to another. (smaller shares)
2. De-tach disk and re-attach disk from within vSphere.
3. vMotion
- Some of the disks contain close to 1 TB of data so I'm looking for the best way say with largest disks.
- The data must reside on different datastores provisioned for this specific purpose.
If you have done similar or know of some articles that may help.
Kind regards,
Travis
I had a few issues upgrading a 5.1.0 ESXi host in a cluster and have not gotten much support here or from HPE since they see no hardware issues via logs I sent them to analyze, so I think I want to do a clean install of 5.5.0 pm that host, which is what I was trying to upgrade to so that we can continue to progressively upgrade our vSphere entire environment to our goal of 6.5 (highest our hardware allows). It had 2 issues I detailed here:
1. Booting up, it gets stuck indefinitely on this message : 'Loading ipmi_si_drv'
2. Following the same exact procedure used to upgrade the other 3 hosts in the cluster, this 4th host fails with an error: "Cannot create a ramdisk of size 384MB to store the upgrade image".
So, I have a few question for this process: Can I use the same Custom Build HPE 5.5.0 ISO I download, which I imported into VMware Update Manager, to perform the fresh install? How do I rejoin the cluster it was in? Do i need to configure network & HA/DRS settings manually or is there a way to automatically configure it to match the cluster settings when it joins? Is there a step by step guide for doing this?
Current System Specs:
vCenter Server: WIndows Server
version 5.5.0 8803859

394GB RAM
Local storage: 274GB HP serial attached SCSI Disks
Shared storage: 7 x 700GB disks in a cluster (fiber)
~50+ Running VMs, balanced

i recently had a few network changes within my lab environment and i have to decrease my amount of uplink ports on my dvswitch from 7 to 4. i removed the physical nics from the dvswitch but now im left with 3 unused dvUplinks. when i try to reduce the amount of uplinks from the edit settings window on the dvswitch i get a "resource 1707 is in use on host x.x.x.x"
does anyone know how else i can remove the unused dvuplinks from my dvswitch.
6.0 vcsa, dvswitch 5.5 (didnt notice until now, will upgrade to 6.0)
VMWare Fusion 10.0.1
Trying to create a VM from my OS X High Sierra system.
Getting this error "VMware Fusion could not find any recovery partitions on this Mac."
but "diskutil list" shows a recovery partition DOES exist.
How do I do this? If I can't then VMEWare Fusion is useless to me.
