page break in a dashboard

I'm creating report off of a dashboard.  The report is a pdf that will be emailed.  I've got a bunch of widgets in the dashboard and when the report is created I have widgets split between pages in the report.  Is there anyway to put page breaks in the dashboard of report so that a widget doesn't get split between pages.  It would look so much nicer and read easier if a widget wasn't split in half between pages.

DRS VM-VM Affinity Rules - possible to use should instead of must like VM-Host Affinity Rules?

$

Is there a way to allow VM-VM affinity rules to use the same SHOULD behavior that VM-Host rules can leverage rather than MUST behavior?

VM to Host DRS rules have the option to "should run on this host" or "must run on this host" (also should not and must not). VM to VM affinity rules appear to only allow the "must" operative.

Is there a way to override this behavior whether by an advanced attribute or via the CLI to allow the same "should" behavior for VM to VM affinity rules as the VM to Host rules? The  vSphere Resource Management documentation uses the language "DRS tries to keep" in reference to VM-VM affinity rules, but the witnessed behavior is that it will not allow a powered-off VM to power-on if the DRS rule cannot be met. The HA Admission control is disabled for the cluster in question.

DRS cannot find a host to power on or migrate the virtual machine. This operation would violate a virtual machine affinity/anti-affinity rule.

VDI performance very poor after upgrading to distributed switch from standard switch

Needs Answer

Hello. We have 9 ESXi servers that we were hosting VDI Horizon View 6.0. We updated all hosts to vmware 6.5u1, and we converted all our standard switches previously set on these hosts to one distributed switch. The new distributed switch has port groups for iSCSI to our dell compellent LAN, and a group for managment network, one for vmotion, and one for the VDI guests to use.

it seems since we did this, many or most of our VDIs are now very sluggish, when reaching peak use during the production day. It worked a lot better under the standard switch. We've eliminated probably every cause except the distributed switch. It seems to work OK until more and more people jump into their VDI. The connection server runs on windows 2012 R2, and worked fine before. We only have maximum 86 users, however, most users are NVIDIA Pascal GPU users if that matters.

Has anyone had a similiar situation? have you investigated a distributed switch for poor VDI performance? The vdi desktop is very choppy and in fact kicks some people right out, that seems to be the fault of the connection server while under production load.

Can anyone suggest HOW to analyze the distributed switch performance, to see what's going on? How about best practices for the distirbuted switch so it works like it's supposed to? Yes, we did call enterprise Vmware support, they haven't been much help yet.

The problem seems to be when we went from standard switches on each host to one distributed switch. we thought to cancel the distr switch and go back to standard switches, but that is NOT working out at all on our test machine!

How to get to Deployment ID from Request ID with CloudClient?

$

I'm trying to do some basic automation by using the CloudClient.  I've pretty much resolved this issue using a Python wrapper around the REST interface, but I'd rather not support that path if I can do the same with the supported tooling.

I'm able to login, fetch a request template, and submit the request.  I obviously can retrieve the request ID.  But I get pretty solidly stuck here, not knowing how to get the associated deployment ID.  From what I can tell, the request information never has the deployment info.  Is there a simply query to get the deployed details via the request ID, or other ID in the request details?

TIA.

New iPhone8 connection loop OSx High Sierra

Hi,

I have a OSX 10.13.2 High Sierra guest running on Win7 pro.

The guest is only used to configure idevice with Apple configurator2.

guest and host as the latest itunes version and driver.

I use an iPhone 6 and 6S and it's working perfectly, my problem started when I got 2 new iphone8+ (and later while writing the post, using an iPhone SE, same problem), on the host machine, no problem at all, they work and they are displayed in itunes.

When I connect to guest, the loop start and I have to physically disconnect the usb cable for it to stop, trying the right-click on icon and connect/disconnect host... not working, it give me a unknown error.

I was running Workstation Pro 12.5, so I decide to upgrade to 14.1.1, same problem.

I tried on the Player 14, same problem... BUT, once, only once it work and I was able to see the device in Configurator and apply the profile that I needed.

VMTools up to date

Set to USB 2.0,

Use the PC USB 2.0 or 3.0 port, with or without a USB hub (all those options work with the iphone 6/6s)

The "usb.quirks.device0 = "0xvid:0xpid" config been tested and not working

I delete all the files in \users\vmware\...

I tested a new fresh guest machine from scratch, same result (so I can get narrow out a faulty .vmx file)

The result is always the same... loop reconnect/disconnect on the guest machine, I hear the "dong" sound on Win7 when usb device is connect looping with the idevice sound when it connect...

This is the log file for the iphone6s with the connection working

Migrating to LTSB 1607

Was wondering if anyone migrated from Windows 10 ENT 1607 CBB to Windows 10 LTSB 1607? We are thinking about moving everyone to LTSB and was wondering if you had to do anything special to make sure that everything worked. We are currently running Horizon 7.1, App Volumes 2.12.1 and UEM 9.1. We do have some users with a writable appstack. Thanks!

NIC detected, no flow/traffic 6.5.0 Update 1 (Build 7388607)

I have an AMD Ryzen 1800x on Asus Prime B350 Motherboard.

I initially had issues with the onboard Realtek Gb LAN, i tried the community vib, searched forums, eventually found a workaround of shutting down the esxi, cut off the power from the MB, then powering it back again.

Since this isn't practical, i bought an Intel E1G42ET  (supposedly supported) and chucked in on the 2nd PCIe x16 slot (the rest of the slot empty of course). esxi detect the two nics (driver igb), but:

1. There is no flow from the NIC/s

2. NIC will show Up - 1000 Full when connected, but when disconnected, will still show Up with speed of 65535 and Full duplex?!

any idea where i should start looking ?

Cheers

[Edit-1]

To confirm the issue isn't hardware, i booted a live Ubuntu and tried the 3 nics, all works like a charm!

[Edit-2]

Driver currently used by ESXi is "igb"

   Module: igb

   Module File: /usr/lib/vmware/vmkmod/igb

   License: GPL

   Version: Version 5.0.5.1, Build: 4564106, Interface: 9.2 Built on: Oct 26 2016

   Build Type: release

   Provided Namespaces:

   Required Namespaces: com.vmware.driverAPI@9.2.3.0, com.vmware.vmkapi@v2_3_0_0

   Containing VIB: net-igb

   VIB Acceptance Level: certified

however, listing VIBs containing "igb" would yeild:

igbn                           0.1.0.0-15vmw.650.1.36.7388607        VMW      VMwareCertified     2018-02-05

is the system using the right driver ?

Caps lock always turn on after switching from Windows 10 Virtual Machine to Host

$

I have a really annoying problem since I upgraded to vmware fusion 10 (10.0.1) (why oh why do I keep upgrading)

When I move to the virtual machine which is hosting windows 10, no matter what caps state the virtual machine is in, my caps always goes on when I return to the host. So no caps in host to virtual machine no caps = CAPS when returning to host, no caps on host to caps on virtual machine = CAPS on host. I continually move from virtual machine to host which means that I constantly have to turn CAPS off. Can anyone tell me how I can fix this?

Printer Mapping Issues with AppVolumes and UEM with Horizon 6.x

$

I am having a strange issue with printer mapping on my horizon clients that use AppVolumes and UEM. Sometimes everything works great and the printers are mapped at login without an issue, the majority of the time the printers do not map and the user has to manually click the UEM Refresh to get the printers to show up. After running the refresh everything works fine. I have read some info and understand that it looks like it could be a struggle with appvolumes installing things such as the adobe printer at the same time as UEM is executing the mapping.

I have tried easy stuff like having UEM refresh run at logon by putting it in the startup folder and have played with other settings trying to fix it. Does anyone have a solution? I am currently working on trying to add a registry entry to run at startup as well but am not convinced it is working, we are currently recomposing.

I am sure others have this error with a good work around.

Thank You

Windows 10: Fall Creators Build 1709 Experiences

Yes, I know it's not yet supported...but I'm curious how your testing is going with the new Win10 Fall Creators Build 1709. (Insider Fast Ring)

We've played around with it, but cannot get composer to successfully finish provisioning.  We think it's due to all of the new Security Features backed into the OS.  We will slowly disable them until we are successful.  How's your testing going?

Windows Search not working with Folder Redirection

Starting to implement UEM for our desktops and I'm running into an issue with folder redirection. When I have it enabled in UEM it kills the ability to search for files or folders on the Win7 desktop I'm testing with. Once I disable it windows search works just fine. I haven't even gotten to the point of making the non-persistent pools yet so the search index is still located on the local C drive and isn't being deleted and recreated on each logon. OSOT also hasn't been run yet just to rule that out.

Hi Community,

I am currently testing Horizon 7.3.2 with RHEL 7 desktops and M60-8Q vGPU profile.

Actually the performances are not so good even with a 4vCPU 16Go RAM.

It shows on the VD 30% GPU and 45% CPU utilization max, so not overloading the virtual HW.

The issue is :

With built-to-lossless activated:

-    Performances very poor (estimated at max 5 FPS)

-    Display is perfect, no “blur” artifacts

Without:

-    Performances are acceptable (around 20 FPS)

-    Display is bad (blur artifacts that stays even when not moving the view, like it does on Windows )

Also, the bandwidth usage  on the Client (v4.7 on win7) is very low according to windows task manager (around 20% of available).

Any idea why I see this behavior ?

Thanks for your support !

Scroll bar is missing in actions tab in VRO 7.3 version. Is there a fix for it?

ESXi host failure question - running VMWare 5.5 3f

$

Hello,

If an ESXi host fails, is part of a cluster, from what I understand, the VM's on that host move to a more viable host that is up and operational.

A few questions in this example:

1. When the VM's migrate, are they shut down before they move?

2. Do the connections that are working on the VM's move or are they severed?

3. If the answer to #2 is they are severed, is there a way to ensure the connections stay alive?

I appreciate your help.

NSX MTU over WAN and do not fragment

$

Hi,

I'm setting up an Cross Vcenter NSX implementation, and have determined the WAN connection is allowing 9000 MTU packet size, but it appears to be  fragementing the packets.

# vmkping  -I vmk3  -s 8972  <remote_ip_address>  works, but

# vmkping -I vmk3 -s 8972 -d <remote_ip_address> does not work

The difference in the ping times for the packets averages is about 1.5 milliseconds more when the size is greater than 1500 bytes.

The local area  network is fine.  I can ping locally with the "-d" (do not fragment) option with size 8972 so apparently the LAN is not fragmenting packets.

My question is will the WAN connection for Cross vCenter NSX work if it's fragmenting the packets? I guess the question boils down to does NSX add the "do not fragment" bit to the packets?

Networking Issue - How to troubleshoot?

I'm spanning traffic to vmnic0. vmnic0 is the uplink to vswitch named PortMirror. There is a port group called PortMirrorGroup on PortMirror that I have a virtual interface for a linux system associated with on the switch.

vswitch.PNG

From monitoring the host I can see 80+ mbps traffic hitting vmnic0. I don't see any of that traffic getting through to the nic on this machine.

traffic.PNG

The switch is in promisc mode.

switchport.PNG

Shouldn't I see something with pktcap-uw on that switchport? How else do I troubleshoot traffic not coming across the vswitch??

pktcap.PNG

Thanks for the help!
