Hi,
i tried to join a domain with my ESX Hosts in our Production. It won't work and i don't know why.

I have installed ESXi5.5 in a server with Emulex OneConnect 10Gb NICs.
I have installed the last driver for this nic - elxnet-10.0.575.9-1OEM.550.0.0.1331820.x86_64.vib.
After some network activity of virtual machines, the interfaces go down, even the switch ports are up.

Hi,
Can you move ESXi Hosts with distributed switches from one vCenter to another? I know you couldn't under previous versions of ESXi but I assume that has changed now.
We do it all the time with hosts that use the standard switches so that is not an issue.
I installed VMWare 12.5 for my Oracle App, (Academic Purpose) Oracle Linux Server 7.2
Kernel 3.10. x86_64
The following keeps coming up and before it didn't. It just took me to my Oracle Screen to sing in with my Orack ID/PW via Icons. Not this 'linux prompt'
Must have this resolved. Walter Earl Roper, Austin, TX roperw@uisalumnni.org roperw4@gmail.com

We're preparing to replace our 2008 R2/Exchange 2010 VMs with 2016/Exchange 2016 equivalent and I'm researching the file system recommended by the vendor (and Microsoft). It was recommended that we use virtual disks instead of RDMs and that we employ ReFS on the volumes supporting the Databases and Logs. I'm waiting for confirmation on recommended cluster sizes, but in the meantime can anyone comment on their experience with ReFS? I've read several articles indicating its performance wasn't that much improved over NTFS and even got the impression ReFS might not be as "reliable" as it's name implies. I'd appreciate your feedback, especially if you've deployed Exchange 2016 with ReFS. Thank you very much.

I am running VMware Workstation v12 and the VM in question is 'hardware version' 6.5-7.x. When the VM was created, the (~100 GB) disk was broken up into 2 GB files so there are about 52 VMDK files. I need to move the VM from the physical SSD that it is located on to another drive so I can replace the SSD with a larger one.
The host OS is Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 and the guest OS is Win 7 Pro x32 SP1.
One of the files (W7-P-x32-S005.vmdk) causes program that 'touches' it to hang up / stop responding. I have tried to copy it to another drive - Windows Explorer 'hangs' when it tries to copy the file. I've tried to zip the file to move it - WinZip hangs when it tries to add the file to the zip file. I've tried to export the VM to an OVA file but the export hangs and never completes. I have removed all of the snapshots in the hopes that one, or more of the file clean ups would nudge the file back into being accessible again - no luck. I have defragmented the VM and compressed the VM to recover space, all of which hasn't changed anything.
I have run a windows error check on the drive. The automatically fix file system errors runs quickly to completion. The scan disk, and attempt recovery of, bad sectors hangs up during the scan process.
Every other file is accessible without any problems.
Surprisingly the VM will boot up and run with no apparent ill effects.
I have copied all of the files to another drive, with the exception of the problem file, successfully - both by direct copy and by adding them all to a zip file and unzipping to the other drive. Again, every other file works without any issues.
I would be very appreciative if anyone can shed some light on my situation to help me save the VM.
Hello,
I will soon set up an ISCI SAN and have to decide whether to use port binding or not. In the latter case, my setup would look just like the following I copied from the Vmware manual.
In this scenario, since there are 2 subnets, port binding should not be used.
IP addressing is not an issue for me; I can use the two subnets for my configuration, or I could place the SAN ports and vmkernel ports on the same subnet and apply port binding.
The question is: Is there any advantage in using port binding, in terms of availability, load balancing, throughput or anything else? or are the 2 scenarios basically the same in availability / performance?
It is noted that the hardware provider for the SAN (Dell) states that for best practices the storage processors should be placed on 2 subnets. On the other hand, I have read Internet articles that state that port binding is better for load balancing and throughput, but I haven't seen any details to support it.
Thanks in advance to whoever can answer this !

Windows 8.1 guest on Windows 10 host will only run for a few minutes before getting memory error message.
Have had to hard reset host machine 3 times this evening when guest VM running in background.
Happens even when nothing running in guest OS.
Windows 10 host seems to run fine so far without VMware running.
With the SRM PowerCLi cmdlets, I see it is possible to get a list of all VMs in a protection group. But if I just have the name of one VM, how can I query SRM and find out the protection group it is in? Is this possible?
Thanks!
Hello All,
I am planning to deploy a single ESXi host to one of our remote sites that will hold no more than 5-8 VMs. I am wondering what others are using in terms of RAID configurations and SAS drives?
Also, I thinking of going with a server model like the Dell R710 that comes with two SSDs that I can mirror and install the ESXi Hypervisor on it. I have never used and SSD to hold the hyper, has anyone and what do you think?
I've made this call from a python script using requests.post and I get a 200 return status and a list of the executions (just like I get when I do a requests.get with the same url).
Inputs:
params = {'workflowId': 'a81f071d-8bd0-4f94-a4b0-8af4c030d0b6'}
data = {'parameters': [{'name': 'criteria', 'type': 'string', 'value': {'string': {'value': 'BLUEDC12A'}}}]}
URL
Return:
Status=200
Reponse={'relations': {'total': 1, 'link': [{'href': 'https://vm-prd01vro:8281/vco/api/workflows/a81f071d-8bd0-4f94-a4b0-8af4c030d0b6/', 'rel': 'up'}, {'href': 'https://vm-prd01vro:8281/vco/api/workflows/a81f071d-8bd0-4f94-a4b0-8af4c030d0b6/executions/', 'rel': 'add'}, {'attributes': [{'value': '2c91e4a35b8cb581015b8d0b774a0101', 'name': 'id'}, {'value': '2017-04-20T16:26:30.603-04:00', 'name': 'startDate'}, {'value': '2017-04-20T16:26:32.627-04:00', 'name': 'endDate'}, {'value': 'd104647@corp.unifirst.com', 'name': 'startedBy'}, {'value': 'completed', 'name': 'state'}, {'value': 'unf_Get virtual machines by name', 'name': 'name'}, {'name': 'currentItemDisplayName'}], 'href': 'https://vm-prd01vro:8281/vco/api/workflows/a81f071d-8bd0-4f94-a4b0-8af4c030d0b6/executions/2c91e4a35b8cb581015b8d0b774a0101/', 'rel': 'down'}]}}
I have a feeling that my request body is not correct. What is the correct format of the body? Where is this documented? Is this where I specify input parameters for the workflow?
Thanks for any help

Hi Bros,
I have a problem with the latest update of VMware Fusion 8.0. After the update, I cannot highlight the content of my e-mail for copy and paste in the Outlook 2016 and the font selection shows in blank (show in the attachment). May I know if there is any solution? or if there is anyone have the same issues as mine? thanks!
At present I have 2 NSX Edge Gateways in ECMP mode with OSPF. Attached is the diagram for reference..
I also need to use NAT functionality on my edge gateway. I need NAT to access few networks.
Lets say Network A (10.10.0.0/16) & Network B (20.20.0.16) This network will not be published outside & it requires NAT to be accessed from outside.
Since ECMP is configured I will not be able to use NAT due to stateful functionality.
Below is my plan would like to know if this is the right approach.
1.Setup a new Edge Gateway in HA (Active - Standby)
2. Configure NAT in the NSX Edge Gateway.
3. Setup new DLR (with Control VM) for the Network A & Network B. The new DLR will be the D.G for the Network A & B.
4. The NSX controllers will be the existing. No need to setup new NSX controllers.
Please let me know if my approach is right.
Mainly point 3 & 4. - Is new DLR (with Control VM) is mandatory.
I saw a similar thread, but no answer that has helped.
ESXi6 build 2494585 / vCenter 6 build 3634793 Windows version
Web Client is borked due to DNS issue, and I'm trying to fix the AD/DNS server which is a VM on this ESXi under this vCenter. When I open the console from the vSphere Client (non Web Client), I get the upper left part of the VM screen (see attached image), which makes it really hard to use the VM. The slider bars don't actually do anything. Tried resizing window, checking/unchecking autofit. Fit Window / Guest seem greyed out.
Happens on all the VMs I've tried, whether vSphere Client logged in to VC or ESXi.
Tried increasing video memory for the VM. Installed VMware Tools on one VM that didn't have it. (That's really fun when you can only see about 1/9th of the screen!)
I suspect video driver or something on my laptop, and gonna ask other on my team what they see, but wanted to hear if the mindshare here has seen similar.
Thanks!

Hi All,
Hope this isn't an obvious question.
I have a windows 10 vm running on a Mac to allow us to run some windows only financial software. These connect to SQL databases that are running on a Windows server on the LAN as required by the software vendor.
This setup works very well until we switch back to the host desktop i.e. to do something using a Mac program and then switch back to the vm say after 30 minutes or so. The financial software usually fails which I think is down to the vm losing network (set in bridge mode) connection to the Windows server on the LAN.
I'm guessing that leaving the financial software open/running on the vm and then switching back to the Mac desktop 'suspends' the vm's network and this causes the instability.
Is my reasoning correct and is there a setting I could amend, I suppose we could just make sure that we close the software running in the vm but obviously it slow down the users workflow?
Thank you in advance
Huge updates, check out our blog post here: New Release: PowerCLI 6.5.1 - VMware PowerCLI Blog - VMware Blogs
As always your feedback was invaluable to making this release a customer focused one and full of awesomeness!
Hi all,
In Horizon 7 I'd like users to be able to access USB keys in their virtual desktop but not local drives (C or D drive for example).
I use UEM so I created a Horizon Smart Policy to disable client drives redirection but USB keys seem to be disabled too, even with USB redirection enabled. I guess USB redirection is related to webcams, smartphones, etc.
So is it possible to only map USB keys but not local drives?
Thanks
Greetings,
Can someone help me with script to generate a report using PowerCLI for powered off VM's and date the VM was powered off?
Thanks,
Rob
We are going to deploy Horizon to over 50 schools, and there will be a lot of pools. The Desktop Pools page on Horizon Administrator only shows a few details, such as name, type, and num_Sessions.
I'd like a convenient way to see a lot more details of all the pools on one screen. Details like:
Number of machines
Number of available machines
Current Image (parent and snapshot names)
Cluster
Is there a way to make this view in Horizon Admin? Or maybe there's a PowerShell way to Select this data?
Thanks.
