vSphere Client 5.5.0 crashes on Windows 8.1 after Windows Updates April/2017

Hi everybody,

 

after shuting down my Windows 8.1 Workstation on 13.04.2017 with installing updates, when I startet the PC the next time on 18.04.2017 I wasn't able to login to our vSphere console.

I have VMware-viclient-all-5.5.0-4032365.exe installed.

Sorry for the screenshots beeing german, but this is the update history of the relevant days.

The vSphere Client comes up, asks me for the login and after some time (where it establishes the connection, searches for plugins, loads the main form, ...) the windows simply closes. Sometimes with the following messages:

At the moment I am the only one with this problem in my company. On a Windows 10 Notebook I have no Problems connecting to the ESX.

I attached you the relevant log file. Anyone else with such a Problem?

VBScript to copy file to sandbox, not virtual file system

Wondering if anyone can help, I have a VBScript which is attempting to copy a folder to the local sandbox but it keeps copying to the virtual file system, is there a way around this? I have implemented a msgbox to verify the path I have specified and it's given me the location of the local sandbox but when it copies the folder it copies to %AppData%/Local on the virtual file system. Hope my explanation makes sense. I'm assuming the redirect is by design.

Deploy VCSA 6.5 failed, with a ovftool crash

When I deployed VMware-VCSA-all-6.5.0-4602587 via windows 10,  the progress in step 1 remains unchanged(0%) for nearly an hour, and then failed.

I checked the ovftool log, and found a coredump.

Windows Event log shows an application error  because of exception 0x40000015 (offset 0x0005beae) in MSVCR90.dll.

 

Deployed in windows 2008 still failed with same error.

Deploy VMware-VCSA-all-6.0.0-3634788 in windows10 and 2008 are normal.

Use ovftool in VMware-VCSA-all-6.0.0-3634788 to deploy VMware-VCSA-all-6.5.0-4602587, it works.

Did anyone met the same error?

Thinning virtual machine with Ubuntu 64 bit

Hi there,

 

according to Ubuntus "Disk Usage Analyzer" (baobab) 20,7GB of 76GB are in use at the moment (see attachments) but the VMware directory somehow is around 79 GB.

I already tried the disk utilities "Defragment" and "Compact" but sadly with no success.

 

Any ideas how to shrink the used disk space of the VM?

 

Setup:

VMware Workstation 12 Player V12.1.0 buid-3272444

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit with 76 GB disk space

When I deploy NSX 6.3.1 which operation system is being installed? Document says that manager and controller are linux based but there is no details.

PowerCLI script to disable vm affinity rules

I have a script to list VM affinity rules for all clusters in every datastore:

 

ForEach ($dc
inGet-Datacenter){$dc|Get-Cluster|Get-DrsRule–typeVMHostAffinity|
sortcluster
|selectName,Cluster,Enabled,
@{N=’DataCenter’;E={$dc}

}}

 

Is there a way to disable VM affinity rules for clusters by name? For example:

 

For all clusters in all datacenters in vCenter01

If -cluster.name = Cluster01,cluster02

then do nothing

else

affinityrules = remove

 

Above is just a rough draft of what im trying to accomplish and working on now. Any ideas?

Vrealize 7.0 integration with Active directory

Hi

 

I am doing a deployment of VRA 7.2

I have used windows 2012 R2 standard  as AD and Windows 2008 R2 for Iaas server

 

All the service in VRA and Iaas server are up and running  and i am able to login successfully

 

I face issue when i try to add the directory from Administration > directory  .

 

I am using the Active Directory ( Integrated Windows Authentication ) and logged in to tenant using Tenant Administrator

 

I know my domain admin is correct because same i used to add other computers to domain.

 

But in this case when i try to add the directory i am getting the error

 

"Could not join domain: Error occurred while joining domain. Verify Domain Admin username and password is correct, and the username is the sAMAccountName."

 

I know the credentials are correct and have the the required priveledge

 

Any specific AD config i need to do here

due to some reason , I have a abc-00002-delta.vmdk and no other files ( no VMX . no abc-0002-flat.vmdk)

is there any way to mount this vmdk in windows to recover files ？

or any way to mount this vmdk in vsphere ？

 

I tried to create a new VM and attach the vmdk , there is a error messages

"cannot open the disk '*.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disk is depends on"

In December 2015 Paul announced the VCIX6 streams for DCV / CMA / DTM and NV

 

VCIX6 Certification Announcement: Part 3 of 3 (Exam Guides) - VMware Education and Certification Blog - VMware Blogs

 

The blog says that the websites will be updated the following January . It has been a year now and certification catalog still does not include any of the VCIX6

I have asked certification@ and the answer I got was "You probably have two accounts so you need to merge them".

 

No I don't and that has nothing to do with it .. So hopefully someone 'more official' here can give a hint as to when the actual exam will be made available in cert manager.

 

We were told the Certification Manager is 'king' when it comes to transcript - but the fact the exams don't exist there makes it sound a bit unbelievable to potential recruiter if you share the transcript and it doesn't include certifications you claim you have ...

Linux Host/Windows 10 Pro 64 Guest - Bad Audio?

Hi,

 

Host: Linux Mint 18.1 MATE 64Bit / Guest: Windows 10 Pro 64Bit

 

I've been using VMWare Player for many years on Linux hosts with no problems.

I recently updated Linux VMWare Player and now have a problem:

In my Windows 10 Pro 64Bit guest I have bad audio?

When a sound is played in Win 10 virtual machine the sound is heavily distorted?

I do have current VMWare Tools for Windows installed.

This issue happened recently after updating Linux VMWare Player.

Any help in fixing this problem would be appreciated, thank you!

Orchestrator extension for vcenter not working

Hi Experts

I am facing issue of not getting the orchestrator extension in the vcenter web client .

When i click the orchestartor  icon in the vsphere web client what i get is just a Introductionand statup page

I have the below version

I Have a VrA 7.2 setup with embedded orchestrator

vcenter 6.0.0

 

I checked mob the entry for the Vra ( https://<vra/vco name >:8281 ) is there.

 

Need your expert advice to resolve the issue

don't know if you may have come across, but running the Powershell Cmdlet Confirm-SecurebootUEFI inside a VMWare Workstation Pro12.5 guest Machine (OS windows Server 2016 ) throws an error as shown below. is there a fix for this

Adding a user to a newly provisioned VM

Hi all,

 

I'm trying to figure out how to add or create a user based on the requestor of the VM..

 

I'm using a clone workflow in my blue print so I'm guessing that VirtualMachine.Admin.AddOwnerToAdmins is out of the question. Currently I have a script that runs after the vm is provisioned, part of this is to scan GuestAgent.log for VirtualMachine.Admin.Owner then create a local user and add it to the Administrators group.

 

I'm guessing that this isn't the best or right way to do things so any pointers would be appreciated

Hola, tengo una consulta, tuve un problema con una VM en la cual se queda "reload managed entity", esto ocurre cada 10 segundos, en un foro conseguí una solución de quitar los permisos de administrador al usuario vpxuser en la vm que esta dando el problema, mi pregunta es que pasaría si lo dejo como un usuario sin acceso? habrá un problema?

Trying to delete just one VM to host affinity rule in all clusters in all datacenters in one vCenter.

 

 

Here is what i have so far but its not working

Workstation 12.5 (any version I have ever used really) - cut/paste to console on esxi host

Hi,

 

Over the years I have tried unsuccessfully to connect my VMware Workstation Linux host to a remote server (esxi 5+) and cut paste between my linux host and the console of the remnote guest.  I have never gotten this working, but it has become more of a pain now that my use case has changed.

 

I have tried installing VMRC to test it, but it's dependencies of vmware-player conflicts with vmware-workstation..

 

Just wondering if anyone had a solutiuon, or a knob I can twist to achieve this?

vCPU Sweet Spot For SQL Server? What's best for improving performance? More virtual sockets or adding addtional cores to exiting sockets

Hello Community Peeps!

 

 

I am looking for advice on fixing a performance issue with our SQL Server 2014 running Server 2012 r2 virtual machine.

The SQL Server Windows NT service kept spiking to 92%. During that time we had 2vCPU (2 virtual sockets, and 2 cores per socket) configured on this vm. Last night I changed it

3 cores per socket and still saw some CPU spikes on that same service to 92%. It may have been a result of transactions catching up on that server because so far this am I am not seeing any issues. But for my own sanity I would like to know if I am on the right track with what I did?
