I went to start the VMMark test for the first time yesterday. Since this is my first time running VMMark I was just running a single tile from the prime client. When I kicked it off I got the error below. I tried both a 64 bit and 32 bit JRE, but got the same error. The prime client is running Windows 2008 R2 64 bit. Any ideas would be appreciated.
We are moving into vSphere 6.0, currently we are in 5.5U3, and our environment was deployed having a Management cluster (only for vCenter and a few management VMs , the cluster has 2 hosts each with 128GbRAM, 2x10 Gb CNA cards and 24 CPUs) and several other clusters for our Prod and Dev VMs.
So now we are looking to optimize our hosts and use features like vMotion, HA, DRS and the improved FT.
As per VMware support, you can use FT on the vCenter Appliance as long as it is deployed as Tiny or Small (and this is our case), also VMware support told me that once you enable FT on a VM, that VM creates Reservations for all its resources, so that they are guaranteed for but the Running VM and the FT-copy.
So if we have these reservations in place and we are 100% sure that our vCenter (and other VMs that have FT enabled) will have to compete with other VMs or be starved for resources, do we still need the "Management Cluster"? To me looks like it would be a huge waste of resources to keep it, instead I want to boost up the hosts to 382GB RAM and add them to our prod cluster (once we migrate to vSphere 6.0)
What do you guys think? Any ideas? Suggestions? Pros/Cons?
I hope someone can assist me here. I have a 2003 standard guest running on VMware 5. I added an additional CPU to the guest. The additional CPU is displayed in Vsphere. However, Windows 2003 is not seeing the additional CPU in task manager. The additional CPU is however present in Device Manager. I've confirmed it is using "ACPI Multiprocessor PC" under device manager. The Hal.dll also seems to be using the correct internal name "halmacpi.dll". None of the options are checked under BOOT.ini advance options. Any ideas?
Hi! Excellent work so far. I wish the production webclient were this fast. Here are my current gripes, feel free to tweet and discuss more @arielsanchezmor
Before we dig in, some things about the fling website:
The changelog doesn't have an entry for "2015.10.22" - I'm going to assume I was running v3. Either use v4 everywhere, or use "2015.12.21" everywhere... but try to be consistent We're all accustomed to build numbers anyways for hosts and vCenter versions.
The Fling itself:
Creating a directory on a datastore is not intuitive. I finally put a \ next to the datastore name and typed my folder, but a little label saying "Select the folder or device where you want to create a folder and type the new folder name in the white space below" should be easy to add and would help.
I would really appreciate having the /vmfs path stated in the file browser, since that was the path I was going to give the Help/Update dialog to the upgrade vib. Instead I had to SSH into the host to find it, which defeats the purpose of upgrading through GUI. It would be even cooler that in the datastore browser, I could right-click on a vib file and choose install or update. Not too difficult considering you already support right click for delete and what not.
I see the task "Install Host Patch v2" completed - yay - but I don't have instructions now. Do I reboot? Restart a service? Logout and log back in? A small dialog would go a long way. Even if it's displayed right after the task is generated (without knowing if it succeeded or not) it would be helpful. I also think you could indicate where to check for logs (in \etc\var\... for example) in case the task fails so people can post meaningful errors or realize the esxcli software vib comamnd failed because of something self-inflicted.
After upgrading (at least I got a green tick on the task, so I'm assuming all is good), I logged out, refreshed my Chrome browser, logged back in and got this error (i've seen two other posts about it here and here with no answer). It seems to happen when the CEIP banner would be displayed.
Unhandled Exception (1)
Unfortunately, we hit an error that we weren't expecting.
The client may continue working, but at this point, we recommend refreshing your browser and submitting a bug report.
I tried logging out and then logging back in through an incognito window and the error was gone, so there seems to be some cache-related cleanup missing in the upgrade procedure.
5. In incognito, I can't get the right facing triangle drop-downs on the left pane (on the left side of "Virtual Machines", "Storage", Networking" to work anymore. They appear to be grayed out. My old normal session only has the "Storage" one enabled and in black. This is very annoying.
After a host reboot the same behavior persisted in problems 4 and 5, for both my normal session and an incognito window. Thanks again for the great work so far!
I tried to create New virtual machine, then use existing virtual disk, I chose Windows 7 x64.vmdk, The error i get is "The file specified is not a virtual disk".
I tried to use vmware-vdiskmanager.exe and I get this error "Failed to convert disk: The file specified is not a virtual disk (0xf00003ebf)."
This vmdk file names are
Windows 7 x64.vmdk
Windows 7 x64-s001.vmdk to Windows 7 x64-s039.vmdk
i try to build an appstack for sql management studio. I installation i can start the App without problem. Then i finnish the capture process. After assign the builded appstack to a desktop and start the application sql managament studio i get an error :

Kindly I would like to know the best way to check the functionality of VM's on recovery site after running test recovery Plan (ruuning on default isolated network in Recovery Site)
Normally I can access them through vsphere console but is there any other way to access the VM's?
this is my first thread so please excuse me for beginners mistakes.
I read through the ghettoVCB.sh guide regarding how to configure the .sh file to backup the running VMs, then as according to the guide i set up the Vmbackup script and ran a test which was successful. A running VM was backed up and the .vmdk clone was placed in the NFS-share which was manually connected to the ESXI server. So now i face a problem with restoring the backed-up VM, when running the following command "./ghettoVCB-restore.sh -c /vmfs/volumes/BACKUP/test/test-2016-02-02_12-17-50" ; this results in the following two errors which i am not familiar with:
ERROR: "/vmfs/volumes/BACKUP/test/test-2016-02-02_12-17-50/" input file does not exists
ERROR: "/vmfs/volumes/BACKUP/test/test-2016-02-02_12-17-50/" input file does not exists
I am a beginner Sys-admin (like a hatching) therefore i would appreciate if you would consider that when responding.
I have a problem with configuring View to work across the WAN. Maybe someone can help?
I have vCenter located in the Datacenter and an ESXi host sits at the remote office. The ESXi host is running Horizon View with a couple of Windows Desktop VMs. For a VM user to connect to View Connection Server it requires port 443. Internally this works great but when accessing View using the View Client software remotely (say from the coffee shop down the street) they can't connect because port 443 is in use by vCenter to communicate with the ESXi host over the WAN.
So the dilemma is we can't access View outside the LAN of the remote office. Which kind of sucks. Because vCenter is busy with that port 443.
So to work around this, I created a VPN tunnel between the Datacenter and the remote office and I sent all vCenter traffic down through the VPN tunnel (including that port 443 of course). This way I can port forward the 443 of the WAN to the View Connection Server so that we can run Windows in a View connection while having coffee at that bad coffee place down the street.
VPN is finicky. It drops sometimes. So I find myself with a habit of checking to make sure if the connection to the host is not in a 'not responding' state. Then I have to bring up the tunnel again and connect the host again and man it's a pain.
Ideally, vCenter would talk to the ESXi host on a port of my choosing so I tried removing and adding the host using a port with the format -> [hostname]:[port]. I made sure to forward that port to the ESXi host which makes it go from 7443 to 443. ESXi should be happy now. The connection starts up and it finds the VMs and it lets me finish the wizard, but while adding the host it gives me the error: Unable to push CA certificates and CRLs to host. So I forward port 80 also (just in case). Same results.
I went through the network port pdf for vSphere 6.x and made sure each required port is available to ESXi.
Nothing useful shows up on Google. I know. Weird.
It seems I can almost add the ESXi host from the vCenter if only I was able to tell vCenter to always talk on that particular port. I have vCenter installed using the VCSA appliance. Should I SSH into it and modify anything in there?
Is my only other option to install the Security Server thingy? That would mean yet another microsoft license no? Is there a Security server Linux appliance? I haven't even checked that yet to be honest.
While host (window) machine connects to the VPN, VM Workstation 11-virtual machine(Linux OS) lost their internet connection. I have tried different networking setup configuration but either connect to VPN or internet not luck with both. The host machine connect with the vpn using Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client V 3.1069.
On a new installation of vCenter 6u1b and SRM, I'm unable to pair to the second site. I can add the PSC address (with default port 443), 'see' the site with matching SRM extension, connect with an admin acct, exchange certs, but then i get an odd error:
"SRM Server Cannot complete a pair Operation. The reason is: fault.lookup.fault.EntryNotFoundFault.summary.lookup.fault.EntryNotFoundFault.summary."
I've not been able to find anything on this specific error. Has anyone seen this before?
Curious to know if anyone has sucessfully gotten SAP B1 working with addons running. I've tried every variation on the install and am having troubles. B1 itself runs smoothly, but any addons increase the time to perform operations between 70%-130%.
