View Planner 3.5 - Unable to generate PDF report.
I'm running into a problem where the run completes successfully and data is downloaded but generation of the PDF report fails. I was able to successfully generate a PDF for a single VM local mode run but it is failing for a multi-VM local mode run. Below is the error that I'm seeing in the log. Any ideas?

Upgrade to 5.5 and vShield
We are running Trend Deep Security with vShield Endpoint. We are getting ready to upgrade from 5.1 to 5.5 and my question is, do we upgrade vShield Manger to 5.5 before we upgrade vSphere or after?? I remember a problem we had when we upgraded from 4 to 5 and the vFile didn't update and we couldn't power VMs on on the hosts that were upgraded. I believe that we need to upgrade vShield before we upgrade the hosts but I would like some confirmation I guess.

VMWare VCPu Configuration
Hi Guys
We are installing a HP DL380 with an 8 core Xeon CPU. We plan to install VMware and run two VM’s both running Windows server 2012R2 with one acting as the DC/File/Print sever and the other as a dedicated application server.
When creating the VM's I'm not certain on how many VCPU's we should be looking to allocate each VM, I have read lots of articles online mentioning that you should not over provision the server as it can have a negative effect or performance.
This is the first server we are deploying using VMware so want to ensure we get it right.

New hosts can’t find iSCSI targets unless port binding is used
I know there are a million of these threads but I can’t find anything that is helping me out. I added 2 new ESXi 5.5 hosts to our environment but they can’t see any LUNs\datastores. Right now I’m using a single 1G connection for testing while I wait for the right 10G card to show up.
I don’t have any port binding in use either since its just one connection.
I made a vmk port on a new vSwitch and gave it a static IP (10.1.45.250) on the storage network. I then connected a cable from the NIC to a switch port that was used for a 1G storage connection on another host before switching it over to 10G so I know the port config is correct.
I have the iSCSI software initiator enabled and entered the storage IPs in the dynamic discovery section. Nothing shows up under static discovery after a rescan.
On the storage (HP Lefthand) I added the hosts to the ACL and allowed visibility to all the volumes.
I can ping (10.1.45.250) from the iSCSI switch and from the host itself but not from my computer or other hosts. I can’t ping other vmk ports that are working either and remember reading that in 5.5 they changed it where you can’t do that for some reason.
I have rebooted the hosts as well.

Finally for fun I added another vmk port with static IP so I could try port binding and then the datastores showed up. Do you have to use port binding with iSCSI?

P2V of a SQL server
We are working on a plan to do a P2v conversion of a physical SQL server to our VMWare vCentre environment. Can anyone suggest a process that they used, to successfully complete this task?
The one consideration we have, is that we have SQL replication running for some databases over a WAN link to another SQL server at another site. We have calculated that the conversion will take around 10Hrs and there are worries around SQL replication and it being recovered.

VCSA 6 Install Problems
Hello,
I am trying to setup two VCSA 6 appliance in an PCI environment with no Active Directory/Domain Controller. The first appliance has been installed at site1. Seemed fine. I created forward DNS records for both. Do reverse records need to be created? The second appliance is giving me the issues. When trying to install...I receive the error: Could not connect to VMware Directory Service via LDP. Verify Directory Service is running on the appropriate system and is reachable from this host.
I am using the local DNS servers for each site which all replicate to one another. Is it possible to setup two appliances in linked mode without AD? Am I missing something?

Fusion 6.0.2 and OSx Mavericks 10.9.1 - Sleep Wake failure unless I shutdown or suspend my Win7Pro VM before closing lid
I recently bought a new macbook pro, tht is up to date with Mavericks 10.9.1
I bout Fusion 6 and migrated my VM from my old macbook that was running Fusion 4.
All seemed to go well.
The VM performs awesomely.
The problem is when I put the Macbook to sleep... I get the 'infamous' Sleep Wake Failure when I wake it up, and the macbook is restarted.
I say infamous, as there are many users of mavericks experiencing this for all sorts of causes.
In my case I singled the cause down to my VMware Fusion 6, running a Win7 Pro machine. If this is still running when I sleep the Macbook then I get the Sleep Wake Failure every time I wake the MacBook. If I shutdown or suspend the VM first, then this does not happen.
Please can this be looked at...
I used to work in this way with my old macbook (OSx Lion, Fusion 4) and never had issues sleeping the macbook and resuming.

Odd aggregation issue...
This one has stumped the VMware tech and Cisco Tech, so I thought I would bounce it off you gurus...
We have 6 hosts running ESXI 5.5. Each host has 3 connections to a Cisco 3750G switch stack. For performance reasons, we need to use aggregation. I set it up as per every guide out there as follows:

Here is the part NO ONE can figure out: When the ports are NOT a member of the ether channel, load balancing does not work as expected. When they ARE, load banlancing works GREAT.
Here is the issue: When we vmotion a machine between the hosts, the VM loses the connection to the network until either
A: some traffic is sent from the VM (like a ping) or
B: the MAC timer in the switch goes off.
You cannot ping IN, until traffic is sent OUT. I do have notify switches to on, latest v12 firmware on the switch, etc.
When we wire shark from another switch, we see the RARP packet,
The 3750s are not using them to change the MAC table. Any ideas?

Very slow acces to datastores on HP MIcroserver Gen8. Can't edit System Resource Reservation with vSphere client.
I performed a clean install of ESXi 6 with provided HP image (ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.1.39-Mar2015).
Access to and from datastores over network through vSphere Client (6.0.0-2502222) is very slow - ~10 Mbps ( there are several hundreds under ESXi 5.5)
I'm suspecting that ESXi 6 limits CPU resources used by host system to 230 MHz.
I can't edit "System Resource Reservation" parameters (contrary to ESXi 5.5, where I can edit them and switch to Simple or Advanced view).

Vmware Workstation 8 Win7 "The '' msi failed" FIXED
I somehow broke my VmWare Workstation 8 install only in the sense i could not remove the program.
When i attempted to remove the program i would receive the error: "The msi '' failed" .
My broken installation was v8.0.4.3XXX
The program itself was working, but i could not uninstall. I wanted to uninstall to install the v8.0.4.7XX update.
The most important part to fixing this was stopping all vmware services and process via Task manager or services.msc
Nothing under the sun worked until i did that.
I dragged and dropped the 8.0.4.7 installer .exe onto a command prompt and ran:
C:\> VMware-workstation-full-8.0.4-744019.exe /x
Then chose to repair reinstall. (this will not fix the issue, or fail, with services running)
Once the repair reinstall completed, i was asked to restart.
After a restart i was able(or force to) do a full clean uninstall via appwiz.cpl (windowsKey+r > appwiz.cpl)
So if your doing this, make sure you have access to your licensce key to avoid delays.
After the successful uninstall i was able run the VMware-workstation-full-8.0.4-744019.exe installation without issue.
I hope this helps someone, as I was close to rebuilding my os.
If you experienced this issue with vmware workstation 7, i would try doing this with the most up to date v7 installer you can get your hands on, but I have not encounted this issue with v7 so no guarantees.

vSphere 5.5 синхронная репликация DAS двух серверов ESXi (зеркалирование) или другой вариант?
Здравствуйте, коллеги. Сломал уже мозг - выручайте!
Установлено два физических сервера с esxi 5.5 + vsphere 5.5, в каждом локальный DAS на аппаратном RAID. Задача - создать отказоустойчивую конфигурацию для использования общего datastore на третьем сервере.
Какие видятся варианты:
Вариант 1. Каким-то образом объединить локальные DAS двух серверов в один виртуальный массив и презентовать его третьему серверу, например по iSCSI. Таким образом, при падении одного из двух объединенных серверов (сам массив будет работоспособным (типа RAID1, зеркалирование) без перерывов в работе.
Вариант 2.
Использовать сторонние программные продукты для асинхронной (лучше бы, конечно, синхронной) репликации (например Veam B&R, Vmware SR) и таким образом получить решение в режиме кластер active/passive. Т.е. если один из двух серверов падает, то на втором есть реплика с данными актуальными, скажем, 15 минут назад. В таком варианте, вероятно, нужно будет вручную проводить какие-то действия, для того, чтобы третий хост переключился на выживший сервер?
Вариант 3.
Установить на оба хоста ВМ с Windows 2012r2 core, и объединить их виртуальные диски через, скажем, DFS? Или как-то еще сделать стандартными механизмами винды?
По первому варианту: пробовал ставить StarWind с free-лицензией на 2 сервера - не взлетело (не видит "партнера по репликации"), техподдержка ничем не помогает, на форуме компании молчат.
По второму варианту: все-таки какой продукт лучше для моих целей - от Veam или Vmware?
По третьему варианту: какой именно механизм нужно использовать - DFS?

Vmotion issue on Windows 7
Hi All,
We have environment with two esxi boxes and just both of them patched and after that we are not able to migrate the VMs from one host to another hots.
But we have two Unix Suse os installed they can be migrated from one host to another.
the error is showing like this:-
The VM failed to resume on the destination during early power on.
Module Snapshot power on failed.
Could not get snapshot information: Failed to lock the file.
Please help me solve this question ASAP..

vmware-view-usb issue with VMware View Cient 3.2.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit

Today I installed VMware View Client 3.2.0 on my Ubuntu 14.04 x64 workstation and I am having issues with vmware-view-usb. I pretty much followed these instructions with the exception of a few more dependencies that were needed and an extra symbolic link: Horizon View 3.2.0 Client on Ubuntu 14.10 64 bit
I went through the installer and chose to install everything including USB redirection. The setup completed and I ran the tests at the end which all came back successful. I launched vmware-view, connected to our Horizon connection server, and connected to a few machines and noticed that I did not have any USB redirection options. I took a look at the Horizon client log and saw the following errors:

vmware-view-usb is not running, in fact its not even installed on the workstation. A find search of the whole system returns no results for vmware-view-usb. I have the vmware-usbarbitrator but not vmware-view-usb. Thinking that I may have messed up something during the installation when determining the necessary dependencies, I installed the VMware View Client again on another Ubuntu 14.04 x64 workstation and again, no vmware-view-usb is installed. Any thoughts as to why this is not being installed and is there a way for me to add the missing file(s)?

Random crashes with Workstation 11.0.0.54843
I recently purchased Workstation and began setting up my environment. Everything is new: computer, hard drives, memory, Windows 7 (host), Windows Server 2012 (3 guests), all fresh installs. While in the middle of working on something, I'll get this error:

It happens completely randomly. I'm not doing anything in particular when this happens. It has happened at idle... I'm still in the process of setting up my servers, but just about done. I've been working around this error, but it's getting annoying.
