Dears,

I have 2 no's hard disk, in one hard disk i installed esxi4.1 and another hard disk i kept all VMs, When i was trying to upgrade the esxi4.1 hard disk and i reboot the host , now hardisk sometimes showing up in bios hardware list and sometimes not, i am thinking to replace the hardisk with the new one, if i bring the new hardisk and fresh install esxi4.1 then i will connect the second hard disk of VM to the same machine ,, will all the VM will be seen with the new hardisk esxi4.1 installed???

Also can body confirm to me that Intel board DG35EC and intel core 2 Quad CPU Q9650 is supported with ESXI 5.X, Actually i dont know how to find the compatibility it is confusing.anybody can share a trick to find in a quick way.

Thanks

Autodeploy+QLogic 8262

We already have a lot of servers PXE+kPXE booting ESXi images through Autodeploy. We do however have a problem with QLogic QMD8262 cards that will by default not boot the ESXi image. They will fail the initial PXE boot and, the host will reboot so they get stuck in a boot loop.

Selection_399.png

If we instead manually enter the boot manager it will happily boot the PXE+kPXE images from Autodeploy.

We have tried to see if we can find any settings in the QLogic BIOS, but there are not much to find there.

Have anyone seen this before? Would like to find a better solution...

Export all vCloud Edge Gateway rules to CSV file

Hi,

For documenation purposes, I need to make a list of all vCloud firewall rules. Specifically, I am looking for Edge name, Rule ID, name, source, source port, destination, destination port, protocol, action, log, enabled/disabled

While I am terrible at any kind of scripting, I believe PowerCLI can accomplish this. Does anyone have a script or know where I can find one to obtain this info?

Thanks in advance!

When I try to print word or excel documents the print is tiny.  I have tried to reformat and change the text size but even if the data only uses a couple of columns and takes up less than a page of text it prints on the top half of an A4 in tiny print.  I have tried linking to both Mac and Windows with the same result.

Help please my eyesight is not good enough to read any of my documents when printing via Windows.

Hi experts,

I increased capacity for datastore from 1Tb to 2Tb as below:

1 Log in to the vSphere Client and select a host from the Inventory panel.

2 Click the Configuration tab and click Storage.

3 From the Datastores view, select the datastore to increase and click Properties.

4 Click Increase.

5 Select a device from the list of storage devices and click Next.

But error message: Call "HostDatastoreSystem.QueryAvailableDisksForVmfs" for object "datastoreSystem-568"

Any suggestion please let me know?

Provide PowerCLI as a Download?

I've written a script that backs up both VDS and ESX configuration and I plan on distributing it to customers, but PowerCLI is a dependency. Ideally, I'd like to include a download link from our own servers so people don't have to sign up for a VMware account. Is this allowed or is it a breach of the EULA?

Thanks in advance

vCenter 5.5 Client Integration plug-in not working under IE and Chrome

$

Has anyone encountered a problem where the Client Integration Plug-in doesn't work even though it has been installed? I have upgraded vCenter to 5.5 (from 5.0) and I am seeing the same problem across multiple PCs. When connecting to the Web Client the option to log ins using Windows authentication is grayed out. Also the option to open a VM console from the Actions menu is grayed out. I can launch the console from the Summary tab but it takes a long time for it to come up and show the desktop. When the console finally opens I am prompted to download the Client Integration Plug-in, even though it is already installed.

I have this problem using IE10, IE11 and Chrome. Opera on the other hand works fine.

Any thoughts and suggestions?

Thanks

Need assistance troubleshooting poor disk performance

I was looking through the document that describes how to use esxtop in an effort to troubleshoot the poor disk performance I am experiencing in my virtual machines.  I am using iSCSI as a storage backend.

The KAVG value is very high according to what I read:

Strange Readings From esxtop DAVG KAVG

I have been scratching my head over this and show has Dell and vmware Support. When I execute esxtop u I get - 18446744073709552.00 it fluctuates between that and another number and through multiple LUNS.  I have updated all drivers/firmware including SAN\Server\Vmware..... Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I am running ESXI 5.5.  I am not noticing any latency to my storage unit " according to Dell Headquarters  ". However I am noticing some vcenter latency loading up vcenter via web browser and the Client.

The vmware tech stated that it was a storage unit issue so I contacted dell and they went through the logs with a fine tooth comb. We had my SAN switches inspected my PS6100E and my HP2920 Network Switches everything checks out to be working fine.

I am thinking it is a bug in the vmware OS.

Has anyone seen this before or had this same issue? I just want to confirm this isnt a issue that will cause a big problem down there road!

Report on VM's created in the last 6 months/X number of days not working

Hi Guys,

Firstly let me for-warn you that my PowerCLI is weak, generally I rely on PowerGUI and the VMware Community PowerPack for a BAU reporting and it has sufficed to date.  The one report I need to run however simply does nothing and sits there

I tried running the VMware Community PowerPack report named  "VMs Created over the last x days" however it doesn't seem to do anything or report any errors wither.  So I thought I would resort to plan B and manually run the following script I found online ...

Using PowerCLI to report number of VMware VMs created | blockandfile.wordpress.com

As an added bonus I felt it would be beneficial to learn to invest some effort in learning some basic new skills.  So I pasted the script into PowerCLI and I get nothing I was expecting to get prompted for credentials at least (see attached) .  I do get a load of red text stating various terms are not recognized

Any ideas'?

Ubuntu 14.04 Full Screen Menu Bar issue

$

0

Details:

Host machine: Ubuntu 14.04 (though I saw this issue with 13.10 as well)

Guest Machine: Windows 8.1

VMware Workstation: 10.0.x (I've tested with 10.0.0, 10.0.1 and 10.0.3)

Screen Layout (though it has no bearing on the issue, it happens regardless of screen layout when the VM is in full screen.  It's just easier to reproduce with a secondary display):

External Display     Internal Display

----------------------      --------------------

|Ubuntu          |     |Windows 8.1 |

|                     |     |Full Screen   |
----------------------      --------------------

Description of the issue:

When operating the VM in full screen mode, if I click anywhere in the upper portion of the screen (where the Ubuntu menu bar normally is) instead of passing the click to the VM, the menu bar is brought to the front and the click is passed to the Ubuntu menu bar.  There is a work around of sorts, but it's pretty annoying.  If use Alt+Tab or click on Workstation in the launcher the click is passed as it should be to the VM.

Steps to reproduce:

1) On an Ubuntu 14.04 machine, launch a windows 8.1 instance and place it in full screen.

2) Click on the Ubuntu Desktop switching focus to Ubuntu, then click anywhere in the full screen VM.

3) Now click in the upper portion of the VM where the Ubuntu menu bar would normally be and it should do one of two things.  If there's a menu bar item where you click, it'll bring up the menu bar item.  If there isn't a menu bar item where you click then it will just block you from clicking in the VM window.
