Issues with InitiateFileTransferFromGuest
We recently switched our code from using VIX to using the new web SDK guest services. We have noticed a strange issue with the InitiateFileTransferFromGuest call. It appears that the first time we call InitiateFileTransferFromGuest for a vm the size property of the returned FileTransferInformation object is 0. If we immediately recall InitiateFileTransferFromGuest we get the correct size and data returned on the HTTP GET call. Subsequent calls to the same vm seem ok after this. But this is repeatable on our other vm's.
We verified that the script if copied to the server and the script is ran as we are outputting the results into a file and this is the file being returned. So there is an issue here. these are both windows 2008 and 2003 vms.
Anyone else seen this behavior. We are also using the dotnet c# sdk.

Consolidating VM with a large number of redo logs and snapshots fail.
Hi,
We've been backing up a Windows Server 2012 virtual machine using Acronis and have noticed over a period of time it's got 146 redo/snapshots associated to the VM disks.
C: drive is 900GB and the D: drive is 5TB
I don't have enough storage to attempt a clone in the environment due to the large drive sizes.
I've turned off the VM and tried running a disk consolidation. It runs for a few hours before failing with the following error: "An error occurred while consolidating disks: 12 (Cannot allocate memory)."
Any ideas on how I could consolidate the VM back to the base disks?
The environment is running vSphere Essentials 5.5 on a single ESXi 5.5 host.

Using vdiskmanager : VMware Fusion-based VM to ESXi 5.5 host; file conversion in OS X
Hi All,
I have a Linux-VM I am running in Fusion on OS X, but I'd like to move it over to my ESXi 5.5 host on the same network. I understand that I need to convert the .vmwarevm file I currently have into the 2 file .vmdk format for ESXi. I found the vdiskmanager application and downloaded it, but I am struggling with how to employ it. Launching the application does nothing more than show me its man page- I have the correct command (I think) and the right syntax based on the man page, but when I can't figure out how to actually employ the tool. OS X keeps telling me the command isn't recognized. Help? Thanks!

Cooler Master Devastator KeyBoard Problem (LED Not Working In Some Guest OS)
Hello there before i used VMWare Workstation 10 that time my keyboard backlight led working just perfectly on guest operating systems. But after upgrading to VMWare 11 the led light (not even num lock) not working. The problem i am having is with Windows 10 and Ubuntu linux. But in windows server 2012 r2 it is working perfectly. In my keyboard i have to press scroll lock to enable keyboard backlight and without backlight i can hardly read a key. Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue? thank you?

ESXi 5.5 Cannot connect to Management Network
Hello Everybody,
I am brand new to VMWare - just installed ESXi 5.5 on two blade servers and trying to configure them and connect them to VSphere client however I am experiencing issues with the network connectivity. Doesn't matter what configuration I set up for management network I am not able to ping the servers or ping any of the other machines on my network. My network is in the 192.168.1.x range and there is DHCP server running. If I configure ESXi to use DHCP I see error that it couldn't connect to the DHCP server. If I configure it to use static IP I am still not able to ping any other machines.
I also tried using 10.1.0.x network by configuring VM with dual adapter but this one didn't work either.
Machines are working fine because if I install Windows or Linux on them they are able to connect to the network. Are there any specifics for configuring the management network on ESXi hosts?
Both machines are experiencing the same issue. Logs do not yield any useful information.

Anyone use SNMP monitoring specifically with ESXi?
I'm looking at all options of monitoring within VMware. We have vCops and vCenter. Just trying to understand all options and get a better feel. vCops is a monster to learn and becoming more clear the more I use it. We currently use HP hardware and a custom ISO to build servers. I dread using 3rd party add-ons to hardware and wonder what built-in SNMP monitoring offers. I always like to ask people in the community their feedback on something like this. It's interesting to here from others. Secondly, at home I run a couple stand-alone desktops with the free VMware hypervisor. It rocks! I setup openNMS and wanted to monitor my home machines. I like to tinker discovering obscure features like SNMP. Monitoring is a passion of mine :) I've never used openNMS, I discovered I could import the VMware mibs. I hope to blog my experiences later on.

VM events for 'Guest Info Ip Address' changed
All, I have seen these events in VCOPS and trying to dig into what they mean. I have a MS SQL Cluster fail over occur near the same time. Any insight on this meaning and where to find more info would be a help

How do I make /tmp/VMwareDnD a separate disk
Mounted a separate nonpersistent disk at /tmp/VMwareDnD but it is not working, I cannot copy files from windows host to linux guest, only the other way round. What's the proper way to do in /etc/fstab?
Here's the relevant line in /etc/fstab that does not work:
/dev/sdd1 ext3 errors=remount-ro 0 0
What is the proper way to do it in /etc/fstab?
If it helps, I also tried
sudo chmod 777 /tmp/VMwareDnD
Now the permissions shown by ls -l are like this:
drwxrwxrwx 3 root root 4096 5 Jan 1 2014 VMwareDnD
But still I cannot copy from host to guest. What else could be wrong?

HOL-SDC-1425 - Unable to get DHCP Relay to work
I've tried this three times now, assuming that I'm somehow making a mistake when going through the lab - but every time, the PXE boot fails before (as expected) and after configuring the DHCP relay agent. Is anyone else having this problem?

Windows XP VM not recognizing 3D acceleration
Hi,
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04LTS with an onboard Intel HD 4600 graphics chip. GLXGears shows that it is running OpenGL 3D acceleration, but when I start XP under VMWare Player, I get a message that 3D acceleration is not supported, so we're unable to run a number of video games. I've Googled this to death without result. Can someone here please assist? Thanks.

WDS didnt show deliverance on LOCAL LAN
I installed WDS , on MS server R2 Enterprise 2008 , My goal is to be able to deliver windows 7 installation through out the PXE Local Network ( laptop,Desktop), included LOCAL WMware client. My host is a laptop .
Here the setting I used/installed :
Static IP 192.168.1.75
Server name : Ben WDS
DNS
Scope 192.168.1.1 -192.168.1.200
DHCP
File Transport
I am using the bridge connection on WMware and i am successfully ping from the server to (example) www.yahoo.com
but i cant ping the rest of the clients on the LOCAL network. But my local clients able to ping my ip address 192.168.1.75
I tried different connection setting NAT , HOST only etc .. none of them , able to get me to the installation process through the PXE.
I really appreciate for the input , ive watching many videos on youtube and carefully analysis my setting. i seems missing something. Everything seems intact , network cards , everything works. on host laptop or the clients.

Jumbo Frames Question
I know jumbo frames have to be enabled on the Network side as well as the virtual switch. What if they are enabled on the vDS but not on the Network side though? I know you would not see a MTU of 9000 until it's enabled on both sides, but is there any down side of keeping it at a MTU of 9000 with the thought of enabling it in the future? Or should both sides always match and if so why? Thanks for the help.

Some VMs not showing in vcenter
I have two host running ESXi 5.0 which I have succesfully added to my vcenter (5.0 client and server). However one of the hosts is missing 3 vm's from its inventory. I can connect directly to the ESXi 5.0 server and see all vm's running. I am sure it is not coincidence that these three servers are my only linux servers (canned Squid proxy servers).
1) I stopped and started the Vcenter server services. same results.
2) I have removed and readded the host. same results, but I do want to note that during the add process I did see that all servers showed in the list of vm's running on the host.

Is there a way to get the List of Hosts and its belonging Clusters at the vCenter Folder level in vsphere web client 5.5 plugin development ?

I need to get the list of all hosts and its belonging clusters at the vcenter folder level.
1. I created a view giving the extension point: vsphere.core.folder.monitorViews.
2. After this step, I have written the below constraint in my Mediator class,

I expected a list of all child entities like hosts,dc,cluster.. But I've got only the immediate child object that is only the datacenter as my result.
Is there a way to get all the hosts and Clusters at vCenter Folder level since I need the entire list at vCenter (top most level).
Other Info:
Folder Object has only two properties:
1. childEntity - List of ManagedEntities
2. childType - Type of folder ("Virtual Machine","Datacenter"...)
Is there a way to write a constraint specifying what list of childEntities I need using childType.
Example: Get me childEntities which has a childType of "Host" and "Cluster" but ChildType doesnt have these two types.
Also, at this level I could see the "Related Objects" tab that has all the information I need, like Clusters and Hosts in Cluster tab and Host tab respectively.
So I believe its possible to get this list at vCenter Folder level.
I have attached a screenshot representing the need. Kindly ignore the naming Conventions in it since I have edited the sample program shipped with sdk.
Query:
1. How can I get the Host and Cluster list (relation table) at vCenter Folder level or even at vise.global.view level ?
2. Once I get that list, is it possible for me to manipulate that list and send the new list to UI ?
3. Is there any other way to do the same without using Mediator and Model classes ?
Any pointers to this will be very helpful.

ここまでで、AlarmInfoオブジェクトのExpressionプロパティの値を上手く出力出来ていないように思えるのですが、何故こうなるのかが全く見当が付きません。
vSphereドキュメントセンターにてAlarminfo、AlarmExpressionオブジェクトのリファレンス等も確認したのですが、プロパティの関連性についてうまく理解が出来ず困っております。
最終目標は、Excel等で加工可能な形で、現状のアラーム設定を一つのスクリプトにて抜き出せればよいと考えております。
上記のスクリプトの動作について何かわかることがあれば教えてください。
また、Alarm関連情報をPowerCLIにて抽出する方法について上記以外にも方法がありましたら教えてください。

Workstation 11 critical error with certain OSes
Hey everyone. I keep getting an error when I try to run virtual machines of certain guest OSes..... For example When I try to run a Windows Vista machine to install it I get this error:

You can request support.
To collect data to submit to VMware support, choose "Collect Support Data" from the Help menu.
You can also run the "vm-support" script in the Workstation folder directly.
We will respond on the basis of your support entitlement.
I also get the same error When I install a Windows 98 OS. If you want me to collect support data I can.
