Passthrough (Direct Access) not working under Linux

I have a vsphere 5.1.0 U1 server running on a Supermicro X9DRE-TF+ with an LSI Megaraid SAS 9271-81 HBA.

All firmware is the lastest current

I setup the Megaraid HBA for passthrough in vsphere.

I create a vm with the Megaraid HBA attached as a device and install Winders 2012 server. All works fine. I can see the Megaraid and disks nad can create partitions.

Creating a vm using linux (both Centos 6.x and Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10) with the Megaraid HBA attached via passthrough I never see an /dev/sdx device. "lspci" shows the hba. with dmesg I can see the kernel detects the hba. lsmod shows megaraid_sas loaded but I never see a scsi disk device.

I tried installing Centos on the bare metal and it works great, sees the hba and creates the scsi sdx device.

Under vmware 5.1.0 via passthrough it dosn't show up.

I've beat on this for a week and my hair is turning grey :-) Any help would be appreiated.

Thanx in advance
