ESX 4.0 incorrectly detects cores as physical cpus

Gentlemen

I recently installed ESX 4.0 on a BL685cG7 with the below configuration.

AMD 6200 with 4 physical Sockets * 8 cores = 32 cores

128GB RAM

There were no issues during the installation. However, ESX 4.0 incorrectly detects as 8 Physical CPUs with 4 cores each instead of

4 PCPUs with 8 cores each. This doubles the required license count.

cat /proc/cpuinfo shows only processor #0. There is nothing much available there.

Any ideas please?

I know this server is not listed in Hardware Compatibility list for ESX 4.0. I am still curious to know how this would make ESX to read

sockets as cores and cores as sockets.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thank you!
