Best way to setup network for point to point links with virtual routers?

I'm having a dilemma right now.  I am new to vmware and virtualization as a whole so please excuse me if this is a simple question.

I setup a home lab with 10 virtual routers.  They share a management network and a "production" network.  I'm having trouble trying to figure out how to setup a point to point network with 3 routers.  I'll  draw this out to better explain.

R1 --------------- R2 --------------- R3

So basically, this is how I would "physically" like to set up 3 of my routers.  R2 being the hub pretty much with R1 and R3 being spoke routers.  The issue is, since they are logically sharing the same production network, if I were to just set up R1 and R3's interfaces within the same subnet, they'll be able to ping each other without the use of R2 regardless.

Maybe it's just late at night and i'm not thinking properly, or maybe my lack of experience/knowledge with virtualization, but if anyone can assist me with this and give me some pointers, i'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.
