I had an ESXi 5.0 instance running on a server and tried upgrading to 5.1. The install seemed fine but now I have no management connectivity to the server via Workstation 9, vSphere Client 5.1 or web. These all worked fine with my 5.0 install. Reloading 5.0 again does not fix this. Originally I tried an upgrade but then did clean installs on a couple different drives.
The management interface comes up, it tests fine from the ESXi console and I can ping it and SSH in but it won't connect via web browser, vsphere client or Workstation 9. In the SSH session I can run a netcat listener on port 80 or 443 and connect to that from remote. When I run esxcli I get a localhost connection failure. I used localcli to disable the esxi firewall but that made no difference.
There don't seem to be any pertinent log messages that I have found yet.
I have SSH'd into the server and tried restarting services but get errors for some of them including rhttpproxy which does not start.
The hardware is an AMD M5A97 motherboard (latest BIOS) with an AMD 8120 CPU, 16 gig of RAM and onboard NIC. I've also tried it with a PCI Intel NIC with the same results.
I'm hoping someone might have some suggestions on further troubleshooting or possible solutions.
