The documentation.... you know.
I've been installing all the Essential Plus additions to my VSA HA Cluster just to run into problems with "do not install this to cluster" and similar notifications. So my question is: what is the right (and minimum) configuration of physical and virtual machines to install _all_ Essential Plus features?
Currently I'm running the latest versions (5.[0|1].xxx) of all separate products
- 3 physical ESXi servers
- 1 with 2Tb RAID1 local storage
- 1 with 2x2Tb RAID10 local storage
- 1 with 2x2Tb RAID10 local storage
- 1 VSA HA Cluster containing all 3 ESXi servers (3 hosts, ~1Tb storage)
- 1 vCenter running on LOCAL storage on one of the ESXi servers
- 1 vSphere Management Assistant on CLUSTER storage on one of the ESXi servers
- 3 vShield Apps running on LOCAL storage of EACH ESXi server
- 3 vShield Endpoints running on LOCAL storage of EACH ESXi server
- 1 vShield Data Security running on CLUSTER storage of one ESXi server
I've excluded the following VMs from vShield App
- vSphere Management Assistant
- vCenter
- all 3 VSA cluster VMs
So, I'm still trying to install the Operations manager and Data Replication which does not install due to all ESXi servers belonging to VSA HA Cluster.
Questions:
- what can be installed to VSA storage?
- what is required to be installed on LOCAL storage?
- How can I install Data Replication and to which storage type (VSA/LOCAL)?
How can I install Operations Manager Foundation and to which storage type (VSA/LOCAL)?
- Any other "been there done that => do not do it" instructions?
- Should vShield App AND Endpoint AND Data Security to be installed in ALL hosts? My understanding currently is yes.
Any help appreciated. The documentation is not very helpful on building the whole Essential Plus package. A note to VMware employers: a figure of the whole environment would be essential addition to essential documentation.
