Sorry in advance for the incredibly basic question that I'm sure is already answered somewhere in the community.
I'm going to be installing 5.1 for a single instance host using the free version of 5.1 (no v-center), the host has 12 250GB hard drives and I'm not sure how to proceed.
a) Should I create a mirror with 2 of the drives for the OS installation, and RAID5 the rest for local data storage or just RAID5 all of the drives?
b) In either scenario, how do I configure a local data store using the available space on the RAID5. I believe I need to create LUN, then format it with VMFS5 but I'm not sure how to do that.
