Hello everyone, this is my first question in the forum.
The question is: is it good to store snapshots in a datastore different than the one that is storing vmdk files?
We had a situation some time ago: We had a VDR that backups 10 VMs. Some of this machines have large virtual disks with up 500GB (SAP stuff). When we made the first backup with VDR, one of the datastores just runned out of space, making all their VMs to stop. We made a workaround and splited the VM's backup window. We have no problem with this enviroment anymore and it's all ok.
But, we are going to create a new enviroment for a new customer. I'd like to know if it's a good pratice to store snapshots in a different datastore, having this kind of problem isolated from the production datastore.
