I have just purchased a laptop that uses Windows 8 (64-bit). I have installed Workstation 6.5.5, and I have installed XP (32-bit) as the guest system. The host connects to the Internet via a wireless setup, and this works fine. This is a duplicate of a system that I have used for the past two years on a desktop, except that it utilizes Vista (64-bit) as the host. It also is connected to the Internet on a wireless basis.
The XP on my laptop (Windows 8 host) works fine, except that I cannot make an Internet connection. I am using the NAT setting for my Network Adapter, and the task bar in XP tells me that the status of my guest Local Area Connection is "Connected" at a speed of 1 Gps.
After a failed attempt to connect to the Internet, I used the Diagnose Connection Problems and View Last Diagnostic Log. It gives the following two warnings:
"The default gateway is in a different subnet than this computer." and,
"The default gateway entry is invalid."
During setup, I chose to have IP addresses obtained automatically, as opposed to specifying any addresses.
I'm not sure where to go from here!
