Hello all,
I am a little new to VMware but learning at light speed!
I am trying to restore a VM to an ESXi host using Asigra Remote VDR.
It worked fine on the first VM I tried and that VM booted and worked as expected.
Then on the next 6 or 7, they restored fine but I did not yet test powering them up because I had several more to restore. on the next few I noticed they seemed to be restoring so I crashed for the night. Next day they were no where to be found on the host.
I tried again and watched the entire process and saw that immediately after the restore vsphere would report that it was removing the entity and then delete the vm completely as though the 3 hour restore never happened.
I thought maybe this was some limit to how many VMs could be on the single host so I deleted a couple of the previously restored VMs to see what happens, Still I can run the restore process and watch the VM get created on the ESXi box just fine. When the restore is complete I again notice that the ESXi box immediately removes the vm.
I cannot tell why it is doing this. It does not report an error of any kind or give any reason. In the recent task it simply says remove entity complete and the event log just shows a line that says removed "vmname"
I have opened a support ticket with Asigra as they are the backup vendor and I am hopeful they can shed some light but I am stumped.
I even deleted ALL of the restored except the original one that was working fine and then attempted to restore 1 of the VMs that had successfully restored earlier but get the same results.
I could rebuild the ESXi box altogether I suppose but this a fresh build with an essentials license anyway.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Or can maybe tell me where there is a more detailed log file I can look at?
Thanks in advance
Dennis
