Issues creating a virtual machine

I am reasonably technical, but by no means an expert. I am setting up Workstation 9.02 on a dedicated Windows Server 2008 machine from Hostgator (not a VPS). Install went fine. Creating a VM seems to be easy - I have a Windows 7 ISO file correctly pointed to.  The first bad news I get is that I am "running Workstation through an incompatible hypervisor". I wouldn't think that a dedicated Win Server 2008 machine would be a hypervisor, but I tracked down the vmx.allownested setting and got past that issue. Still seems strange to me.  The next message is that "Binary transalation is incompatible with long mode on this platform" and I can't run 64 bit code. OK, but I have no idea what that really means to me. So I press OK to continue, and two seconds later, everything locks up, I lose my rdp connection to the machine, and it reboots itself. Have tried deleting and recreating the vm. Have tried a second new vm. All end up the same - crash the machine and reboot. This all seems pretty serious for a simple install !!  Anyone got any thoughts?  Thank you. Michael Gauthier
