I just downloaded and installed new newest version of VDP on Vsphere 5.1. I had it back up two linux VMs....no probem. I then tried to have  it back up a Windows 2008 R2 VM (twice)....both times it failed.

Vecenter recorded this error:

Description,Type,Date Time,Task,Target,User
VDP: Backup job (Computer1) failed to backup client Computer1 - Win 2008 R2. Execution error: E10055:Failed to attach disk.. Job Id: Computer1-1365371752743. (Full client path: ),error,4/7/2013 5:56 PM,,vSphere Data Protection, root

The event viewer of the Windows VM has tons of errors all bunched together.
