Networking and Workstation 9

I have a sandbox built and was troubleshooting an issue and resolved it but I do not know why the original configuration did not work and would like to have clarification from the community.   My home lab is built on Workstation 9 and I have built the following hosts.

  • DC - dns, dhcp, ad, etc. 10.0.0.1/24 (network adapter custom VMnet2
  • vCenter - 10.0.0.2/24 (network adapter custom vmnet2, na 2 custom vmnet3)
  • ESXi1 - 10.0.0.10/24 (na custom vmnet 2, na 2 vmnet 2)
  • ESXi2 - 10.0.0.20/24 (na custom vmnet 2, na 2 vmnet 2)
  • ESXi100 - 10.0.0.201/24 (originally: na 2 vmnet 2) (final: na custom vmnet 2)
  • desktop - 100.0.103/24 (network adapter 2 custom vmnet 2)
  • vcsa - 10.0.0.250/24

I was trying to connect to vcsa from desktop and could not..  I could ping only DC from dektop.  I then tried via vCenter and was able to connect to vcsa.  I checked my configurations and thought with network adapter 2 custom vmnet 2 I would be able to connect since I was on vmnet 2.  However I could not.  I removed network adapter 2 custom vmnet 2 from desktop and added network adapter custom vmnet 2.  I then was able to connect to vcsa via desktop.  My question is why could I not connect via network adapter 2 vmnet2 but I can via network adapter vmnet2?

Thanks
