client closed, idle vcenter session remains

In vcenter I see idle sessions that I don’t believe should be there and I don't understand why.

I’ve had users put in <inactivitytimeout>120</inactivitytimeout> in their  VpxClient.exe.config (vsphere client config file) but it doesn’t seem to help all the time.

I have one user showing an idle session of 17 hours but the vsphere client is not even running on their computer.

There’s another user with 3 sessions (active, idle for 30 minutes and idle for 15 hours) but when I check their computer, only one instance of the client is running.

How is it possible to maintain an idle session when the client isn't even running on the computer?

Is vcenter counting sessions in some less than obvious way that I'm not understanding?

Thanks
