Backup on NFS Share - questions

Hi,

Just have a few question about my backups:

Backup Scenario

Source: Windows Server 2008 R2 Virtualized on VMware 5.1. C: Disk is "System" D: is "Data". D: size is 1 TB. Purely a File Server.

Target: QNAP Turbo

Both source server and target repository are locate in U.S. office.

I did want to backup on Veeam but two issues arises:

1) Geographical location: Veeam server is located in Central Europe, source and target are in New York (WAN connected). Veeam proxy partially decrease backup timing, but it's still not acceptable. Plus, if there's a link distruption I'm worried about data loss.

2) VM size: Total virtual machine size on datastore is >1 TB.

So I did come up with using integrated Windows Server Backup, that do the job free of charge and it's embedded on the system.

Still, I want to maximize backup performance by target an NFS share on the QNAP, but if I mount the share as Datastore and add it as a disk on VM, it will further increase VM size.

So I'm thinking about connecting the NFS share with integrated NFS service in Windows: question is, is this solution going to increase VM size like adding the NFS share as Datastore? Do you have any suggestions about backing up merely files and share folders based on this scenario?

Thanks
