We're cautiously trying out Linux here. I'm seeing two problems in the Linux VMs:
- Snapshots work 100% on the Windows VMs. On the Linux VMs, snapshots also clearly work - we're seeing autoprotect snapshots being taken, they can be reverted to, deleted, and kept. So snapshotting works. But the "take snapshot" buttons and menu items are dimmed, stopping us taking manual snapshots. No obvious reason why every other snapshot function works but the button/menu item for these are disabled.
- VMware tools is working fine (copy and paste, autofit host/guest, shared folders). But when the Linux VMs restart or return from suspend, basic VMware-related settings are lost: a swap partition on a physical disk (SSD) that was activated before is not active and must be reactivated via partition manager again, and the guest window that was set to a desired size by dragging the window frame, has lost that size and a standard system default size is chosen instead. On Windows these settings are remembered across suspend/reboot, and I can't find how to make them remembered across reboot in Linux.
Host: Win 8 Pro x64 running Workstation 9.0.2.
Guests: Win 7 (twice), and Linux Mint 14 KDE (an Ubuntu 86-x64 derivative). In case Mint isn't supported, I've also tried the same with Ubuntu 13.04 x64.
Any help - I'm hoping this is VMware/Linux basics, but I'm not sure where to look for an answer.
