VMware Fusion Hangs/Crashes

I am running VMware Fusion Professional Version 5.0.3 (1040386). I am able to open up the virtual machine and snapshots I have, but a few minutes after opening the virtual machine hangs with a rainbow wheel on the virtual machine and my OS X 10.8.3 (12D78) MacBook Pro. It then crashes and closes both. There are no error messages, etc. I have tried repairing permissions and disk repair with no luck.  I then restart the computer and virtual machine and it happens again. The OS X side will run fine by itself, until I open the virtual machine. This has been happening for 3 days and I am unable to resolve this issue and need the files in the virtual machine for work. I also get this message sometimes:

Operation on file “/Virtual Machines.localized/WindowsVista.vmwarevm/WindowsVista-s006.vmdk”failed.
If the file resides on a remote file system, please make sure your network connection and server where this disk resides are functioning properly.
If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.
Choose Retry to attempt the operation again.
Choose Abort to terminate this session.
Choose Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system”
