Command line and scripted resume?

Hi all,

I'm running VMWare 8.0.1 on a RHEL6 host (kernel 2.6.32-71) with a Windows XP guest.  The linux host is a quasi-embedded headless server in a large medical research device with the only access to over SSH.  We've been having issues with the power subsystem (we're re-designing it) of the entire device which causes the server to power off ungracefully.  This often leaves the VMWare guest in a paused state that I can't "resume" without having to launch the VMWare UI to unpause it...I get the "An error caused the resume operation to fail...Discard/Preserve" window.  Is there some way to bypass this question or otherwise get past this trap via command line or script?  I've tried deleting lock files/dirs, but is that doesn't seem to work.

THX,
