1 vCPU is being used at 200%, How is this possible ?

Hi all,

I monitored the performance of a VM having 4 vCPUs, each vCPU was having clock speed of 2.5 GHz. vSphere reported the performance as follow:

core 0 : 5205 MHz

core 1,2,3 ~= 1000 MHz

Overall CPU usage was 90%.

Why is core 0 is overcommitting its base clock speed (i.e. 2500MHz) .Can anybody elaborate this please. ?

AND

Core binding is also being used and esxtop is reporting different results, it says that load is equally distributed to each of the 4 cores and all the 4 cores are used ~90%.

Why is the result of esxtop is different from vSphere client result. ?

Any answers/suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Regards,
