Moving from LabManager to vCloud Director - Need Some Help on Changed Procedures

In lab manager, I would create a new VM Template, make my master image, load VmTools, undeploy the template, set a customization script, then share that template or publish a clone for everyone's use.

In vCloud this doesn't seem to be the process.

I imported my templates from vSphere, but I can't find any way to deploy or run the VM to update it.  Also all of the customization portions of properties seem to be grayed out.

It looks like I open it back in vSphere, copy it to "My Cloud", or I can copy it to another catalog.

Not sure what I would do with it in vSphere, and if I copy it to a catalog it looks like it just makes another copy.  If I copy it to "My Cloud" it looks like it becomes a vApp and I now have customization ability.

So is this where I work on my Gold Master images?

If I do, will customization launch when all I want to do is open it up for patching or minor changes?
