I replaced the original HDD on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.8.3. This disk had WMWare Fusion Pro 5.0.3 running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit in two user accounts. Everything worked fine. I replaced the disk to increase storage space and speed.
I cloned the old HDD using SuperDuper!, copied it on to the new HDD, and installed the new HDD.
On the new disk, VMWare and Windows works fine in one user account – which was the first user account in which VMWare and Windows were installed on the old HDD. VMWare opens fine in the second user account, too, but when I try to start the Windows virtual machine in the second account I get this error message:
“An error occurred while opening configuration file "/Users/user1name/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 7 - 32 bit.vmwarevm/Windows 7 - 32 bit.vmx": Insufficient permission to access the file.
Cannot open the configuration file /Users/user1name/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows 7 - 32 bit.vmwarevm/Windows 7 - 32 bit.vmx.
And then a message saying “Cannot find a value peer process to connect to”
I checked permissions for the file “Virtual Machines.localized” referred to in the error message, and it shows both user accounts have admin status and read/write permission.
Everything else I’ve tried using the cloned HDD works fine. Windows, MS Office, VMWare and other software copied over with all licences and settings intact. With the exception of this one virtual machine, everything else seems to be working just as before (only much faster with the new Seagate SSD Hybrid drive.)
Any suggestions for how to fix this?
