I have used the CSM tool successfully for several builds. I just added a few command lines to run once and modified the domain information and it failed. I figured a quick look at the logs would show me where I went wrong but its not as easy as I thought it would be.
I am fairly new to the product and would like to troubleshoot this using logs. The trouble is that I either can not locate the log(s) generated by CSM, or in the case of the vSphere system log vmxp*.log, I can not find the information I need as it looks to be spread out over a 4 minute period. I found a document that stated the CSM log on the client side should be located in C:\Windows\TEMP but no dice for me on the successful or failed machines.
I realize I can troubleshoot by seeing what worked and did not, but it is kinda backwards and a waste of time. I would like to be able to just go to location 'X' or look for 'ABC' in the system log etc.
Also, it would also be nice to reference a document or blog etc. that describes the architecture and limitations of this flavor. I am guessing CSM is just a UI that builds an answer file for sysprep. But maybe not, where is that info? Does this do everything sysprep will do or are some functions limited? Like joining a computer directly to the target OU instead of the default 'Computers' OU is supported / not supported with CSM. etc.
Any advice around this would be appreciated.
Sorry if I am not in the right community.
Thanks.
