Hello, I am looking how VMware vCloud Suite fulfills the criteria defined in the NIST definition of cloud compuuting.
Measured service: ok here we have the Chargeback Manager, recording actual ressource usage and providing reports. Are there any possibilities to automatically execute payments? Actual ressource usage will also be reported over vCloud Director? Furthermore it is said that the cloud solution optimizes and controls ressource usage. What exactly is meant by that and how das VMware comply with this? Is something like DRS/DPM meant by this?
Rapid elasticity: Ok, fast, flexible and automated provisioning of ressources. This is done by vCloud Director, users can order new ressources by themselves in case the provider holds enough ressources available... booking and discharge of ressources is then done through vCloud Director, no admins needed for that (self service)
Ressource pooling: on a host vSphere already pools ressources. Then theses ressources are provisioned in virtual datacenters through vCloud Director. If users request new ressources, who assigns this ressources? vCloud Director or vSphere? How does the vCloud Automation Centre fit in this criterion? It is not integrated in vCloud Director, so how can ressources be provisioned? If i have a private cloud built with vCloud Suite and addtionally some XenServer, Hyper-V Hosts and AWS ressources. What will I do then? I would have 2 self-service portals and have to provision decentralized? And I cant provision VMs directly from vCloud director into the Automation Centre? Also there is no Chargeback Manager integration for the automation centre, how can I bill for it then?
Broad network access: ok the provider on one side and user on the other side have to ensure a stable connection ... but ressources should be used using any device (Win, MAC, Linux, iOS, Android, ...). What is offered here? Horizon?
On-demand self-service: Which product exactly offers it, I would say vCloud Director, but nearly every product has a self-service portal ....
IaaS: ok as a cloud service provider or in a enterprise I would say with vCloud Director and vSphere I can offer IaaS cloud .... the other components just add more benefit
PaaS: how can I offer PaaS in my VMware cloud? Just Cloud Foundry or are there other possibilities? AWS?! How can I charge for the usage?
SaaS: Which possibilities do I have to offer SaaS? Horizon?!
Public Cloud: ok I can create Public Clouds using vSphere and vCloud Director
Private Cloud: same as Public …
Hybrid Cloud: vCloud Connector just interconnects vCloud based clouds. What else can be done for Hybrid Clouds with other technologies like AWS, CloudPlatform or System Center?
Community Cloud: yah, if I can create Private Clouds, then also Community Clouds :>
Hope you can help me out on some of this, especially on PaaS, SaaS, Chargeback, function of Automation Center and using different hypervisors (XenServer, Hyper-V) in my cloud
