vCenter HA cannot SSH to Passive and Witness node

Hi. We have vCenter HA running on v6.5U1+. We are preparing to upgrade and discovered it has been running on the standby/passive node for quite some time I imagine. But the HA cluster is Green and synchronized. I suspect the last patch of the cluster, we did not fail over back to the original Active node.

We are having no issues with this vCenter instance, and we can do a VAMI backup with no issues.

I cannot login with the VCSA appliance password on either the Passive (original Active) or Witness nodes. Either from SSH from the current Active node, or direct from the VM console. I can ssh in to the Active node (former Passive node) and of course the VAMI.

I imagine the VCSA appliance password has changed a once or twice during when it maybe have been running like this.

So I am confused why I cannot login? Does the appliance password not get synced? If you are running on the Passive node, can you not ssh to the others? This doesnt make sense though as patching procedures for vCenter HA assume you can.

Any ideas on what to do?

I am afraid to initiate a failover to the original Active node for fear of the VCSA appliance password not working, as it currently doesnt seem to when it is a Passive node.

Again the cluster is Green and says it is in sync.

Thanks,,,
