Ping question...

Can you ping the blade switch that is mapped directly to a vmnic on a ESXi host? So for example, vmnic2 on my ESXi host is mapped to a port on my cisco blade switch. When I have VM's running through this vmnic, they are unable to ping this switch. Is this considered normal behavior? You can't ping the switch you are running through?

More detail if needed:  We have 4 Cisco 3020 blade switches in a HP C7000 chasis. We have 5 ESXi 5.1 hosts. Each vSwitch on these hosts has two nic's associated to it. After running esxtop on the ESX host in SSH, I was able to see what exact vmnic the VM is going through. I then found that the VM cannot ping that switch that the vmnic is mapped to.
