Hoping for some advice... I'm weighing the pros and cons of consolidating 6 remote vCenter Servers and having their ESXi clusters managed from the central headquarters vCenter server.
So far I see the following pros:
- Save on vCenter Server licensing (but how much?)
- Centralized administration where there are dedicated VMware administrators
- Potentially easier integration with vCOPS (not sure on this one as vCOPS can register with more than one vCenter IIRC)
Potential cons:
- Local System Admins at the remote sites will no longer have access to manage their cluster and hosts via their local vCenter - so no move capability to open a VM's console from the VI client for example
- Slow links to remote sites might cause issues managing the remote ESXi hosts from the centralized vCenter? (What type of problems might manifest?)
- ??
Hoping for any feedback or advice from the community- thanks!
Mike
