I have created 2 clusters for NSX deployment, One as Management with 3 host and the other with Compute and Edge with 6 host. I have NSX license for 6 host which is Compute and Edge, so i will be deploying the edge services on these servers. All the 9 host connect to a single switch. Management cluster with 3 host does not have nsx license and i will be deploying NSX manager and controller on this. The problem i have is in defining the vlans specially the managmnet/Vmotion ect on Management cluster and almost same on Compute on edge pod. I was trying to understand the communication and flow of traffic between the vlans from management cluster to edge/compute.

Rest Operation with headers
Hi,
I try to run a workflow in other program (not VRO).
With postman program I successfully run the relevant workflow, but in order to run it, I have to add two headers:
Content-type - application/Json
X-CSRF-Token - long id number
How can I with VMware Orchestrator to run a Rest Operation with multiple headers?
I only find a workflow which allows me to add only the Content-Type
Thanks!
web client crashing with error 503 (slow response)
Some time web client start but , facing the issue for login and got the error 503. Mostly issue in 6.0 U2 which is resolved in U3
- 1. Temporary solution :- Increase MaxPermMB size
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2148445
- 2. Permanent: - Upgrade your infrastructure according to 6.0 U3.
VPXD is not starting on appliances with one external PSC
When we run command
Service-control --stop --all
Service-control --start -all
We got error cm or proxy service not started that why vpxd have issue.
Try this
Restart, proxy service then restart vpxd. It because of component manager service not starting.
How To: Set up a freshly installed VMcom Backup Appliance
Hello everybody,
If you've read my last post, you should now have a freshly deployed instance of VMcom Backup Appliance.
Today, we're going to perform the initial settings and create our first backup. It should take no more than a pleasant couple of minutes. We're also going to get familiar with a very pretty, user-friendly web GUI.
Navigate your browser to the appliance's IP address or hostname and log in as admin with password pleasechangeme (unless you've already changed it to something more secure). You should see VMcom's Dashboard.
The dark gray left menu navigates you though all of the functions. Still on the Dashboard, please note the four gray rectangles - they represent vital components of the application and will turn red in case there is something wrong. Also, you'll notice a short info bar giving you some useful hints about the application. At this point, it's telling you to add your VMware infrastructure, which is what we'll do right now.
Step 1: Add your vCenter or ESXi hosts
Click Manage infrastructure under the first gray rectagle or the corresponding left menu item. You will be directed to VMware Infrastructure screen where you can add your vSphere components. It is recommended to create a separate vSphere user for the appliance (check the VMcom Admin Guide for a list of required privileges). Please note that ESXi free is not supported as a backup source and you'll get an error if you try to add one. This is common for almost every backup application out there and can be one of the main reasons to upgrade your VMware license.
Click save and the application will scan the vSphere inventory and cache its contents for faster browsing. The cache refreshes automatically every 20 minutes or after a successful restore operation.
Step 2: Add some storage for your backups
With VMcom, you can utilize local disks or iSCSI/FC/NFS datastores for storing backups. If this is the case, simply edit VMcom VM's settings and create a virtual disk on a corresponding datastore. Back in the VMcom GUI, click Backup Storage and turn such disks into deduplicated backup repositories by clicking the Create button.
If you plan to utilize a NFS/SMB storage or an external deduplication solution (HPE StoreOnce or similar) use one of the Add NFS Share or Add SMB Share buttons and fill in its connection details. The result should look something like this:
Step 3: Create a Backup job
We are now ready to create a Backup job. Select the Backup Jobs left menu item and then Create vSphere Job. When creating the job, you need to decide whether to use VMware's quiescing function when creating snapshots for your backups. It is generally recommended for Windows VMs which can utilize VSS for application-consistent backups. Linux VMs usually ignore quiescing.
Personally, I disable quiescing for IO intensive VMs as it might cause the snapshot creating take longer than usual.
When finished, click Save. The Job will then appear in the list and you can expand its detailed setting by clicking the Open button in the Actions column.
Now it is time to select vSphere objects, that will be protected by this Job. Click the blue plus button in Selected Objects panel. Now you can browse your vSphere inventory and select any object you like - datacenter, cluster, host, folder, resource pool or VM. You can even select multiple objects if you like. When ready, click Save and check the list of Protected VMs.
Next, select a Target Storage for this backup. It will be one of the repositories created in step 2.
That's it. You can now schedule the Job to run periodically or simply run it manually. The scheduler is self-explanatory, so for simplicity let us simply click Run now and see the result.
Simple, right? Next time, we'll go through browsing backups and restoring. Thanks for reading!
Alert for Adaptor Instance
Hi,
We have several Adapters and I would like to setup an Alert for when they fail or stop collecting or receiving data, in particular those for vCenter.
Has anyone done this is it possible?
Reset root password from shell
Hi All,
An accident happen - I need urgent help!
Yesterday I changed root password of one of my ESXi hosts (ESXi 6 upd. 2).
I checked the new password and it was good.
Today I can't login with the new password, nor with the old one.
Say's something weird happened and I lost the password.
I still have root access to shell (based on SSH keypair).
I can change password in shell, but can't login with the new password, nor to shell, neither to ESXi client.
Is there a way to define root password from the shell?
Any help will be really appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Unable to launch VMware Remote Console on Linux
I have installed VMRC 10.1 on Fedora 26. I am unable to get this to start when using the links in vCenter.
I am also unable to read the log files unless I am root, could this be the issue? How do I set VMRC to launch as sudo when using the links in vCenter web interface?
Remote Console 9.0 download
There is a known issue listed in the Remote Console V10.0.2 release notes that it crashes on certain versions of Linux.
The suggested workaround is to use version 9.0
Unfortunately the V9.0 download page says this version is no longer available.
Is there anywhere the V9.0 for Linux can be downloaded until a version of V10 is made available that works properly (i.e. at all!)
On-Demand Inline load balancer in vRA
Hi all,
We are using vRA and we are starting to design some simple blueprint with only one load balancer and some Apache web server running on port 8080.
We are trying to use an On-Demand Inline load balancer in the blueprint to have the load balancer connected to one VIP network and to one Web network. ( the Apache Web pool network )
This design is executing properly but we want to customize and change the default Gateway for the Apache web server to point to the load balancer NSX Web interface.
Currently the default Gateway for the Web server is provisionning by a network profile in vRA and it is an interface on the DLR router.
Do you know how to change the default Gateway on VM during the blueprint execution or with Software component ?
The goal is to get the ip address from the On-Demand load balancer during blueprint execution and assign this Gateway to Web server.
The final design should be like that. This should be automated during blueprint execution.
Any idea would be helpful
thanks a lot !
Study Material
Study material is lacking big time for advanced exam. The official guide for none of VCAP/VCIX exam is available yet. We all understand it takes dedicated time to write a book, review and modify when new version is released. Study material should be dynamically updated as is docs.vmware.com. Of course lots depend upon if this study material will be paid. With cloud/digitalization book writing business model should change.
Moderators Panel should be formed which might include VCDX or VCAP (Double) should be allowed to moderate the content. We all know how popular and effective this group is for any aspiring VCAP6's https://plus.google.com/communities/103910393937429082483. But I noticed very difficult to browse through and more difficult to validate the authority of the comments.
VMDK auf externe Platte kopieren mit ESCXI 4.1
Hallo,
Running multiple SSH commands in single SSH Session
I have the need to run multiple SSH commands from a single session. The reason for this is that I'm logging into a Cisco device and need to be in the 'configure terminal' context before executing the second command. I cannot have the SSH session run the first command, disconnect, then reconnect to run the second.
I don't believe this is possible with the default 'Run SSH Command' workflow, so I've tried to build my own.
When I use two lines such as:
session.executeCommand("conf t",true) ;
session.executeCommand("do sh run int vlan " + vlan_id,true) ;
I get the following error:
Unable to execute command InternalError: session is down (Workflow:Cisco-CreateVLAN / Create_VLAN_On_Switch (item2)#20) (Workflow:Cisco-CreateVLAN / Create_VLAN_On_Switch (item2)#33)
The executeCommand method specifies the following:
Execute a single command and wait until completed, return the stdout result if synchronous. This command will connect the session, request an execution channel, execute the command and close the execution channel.
From the above, it appears that trying to execute multiple commands via SSH is not possible. Is anyone able to offer any insight into this?
Thanks
Using the SSH plug-in to configure a Cisco device
Hey has anyone figured out a way to use the SSH plug-in to configure a Cisco device with multiple commands starting with config t? From what I can see when a command is executed the execution channel is closed and multiple commands does not work. I believe a stream has to be established for this to work and I am struggling to create that stream native in vRO and the plugin. Single commands and queries work great it is just the chain of multiple commands that is not
RDM Mapping Issue
We’re having issues migrating the MSOCL1 and MSOCL2 servers, that use RDM mappings. They have been inventoried on the new vCenter however we’re unable to power them on. The log information has been exported as below.
Within the VM settings, the RDM disks are showing as below, and appear unavailable. Also, we are unable to add new RDMs, none are discovered.
Access has been granted on the SAN to both SHESX05 and SHESX06, in this case we’re using SHESX06.

How to use OVF Tool inside Linux ESXi shell ?
Hello All,
Can anybody please help me with the VMware OVF Tool command line utility ?
It is supposed to allow you to import and export Virtual Machines containers (VMX files).
How do we specify the path to the .VMX we want to export from an ESXi server ?
The command line option <source locator> asks for a "vSphere locator identifying a virtual machine or vApp on vCenter, ESXi, or VMware Server" but I just can't make the application recognize any thing I try.
For example, on the following command line option:
> ovftool vi://username:pass@my_host/my_datacenter/vm/my_vm_folder/my_vm_name
What does "my_datacenter" is supposed to mean ? Where do I find the name of my vSphere ESXi server ?
I've installed the OVT Tool at the vSphere server itself. The binary is working well at Linux ESXi shell. I just don't understand how to point it to the specific file I want to export at the datastore.

The file I'm trying to reach from the OVF Tool command line is last one:cancao-cead.vmx
How can I make OVF Tool command to find that file ?
